My RD250 that is, loaded into a van and off to its new home in Wales. -- jeremy '02 Fazer 600 in blue _______________________________________ jeremy at hireserve dot com
As long as it went to a good home....... I've been fiddling with the CB750 this morning, trying to find out why the speedo and tacho illuminations were u/s. Pulled off the side panel to look at the fuses, and a loose bit of wire that had been jammed into a block connector fell out. And that was the tail light going on strike. Someone had bodged a feed from the tail light into the main loom. Why? Because when the connector in the headlight for the clock illuminations comes undone (as it had), it takes the feed to the tail light with it. Oh, it also serves the pilot light in the headlight. Re-connect connector, and all's well. We have clock illumination, and working tail light. And parking lights. Next stop is to replace the bust choke cable & knob. Tippetts of Surbiton don't do ShiteOldHonda spares any more, I've just discovered. They flogged all their stock to Dave Silver last year.
Yep I think it has - familiar story, the guy had one the same colour when he was 17 and has been looking for one to rekindle his youth... -- jeremy '02 Fazer 600 in blue _______________________________________ jeremy at hireserve dot com
<G> I'm writing something right now about that sort of approach. "Your first classic" - I think the four reasons why people buy classics are: 1. Because they used to own one and want a wander down Memory Lane 2. Because they always wanted one and never had one. 3. Because they just fancy something old as an alternative to whatever modern stuff they've got 4. Because they just fancy "doing up an old bike". Price doesn't really matter for (1) that much. For (2) it's quite important and (3) and (4) usually buy something cheap and in boxes, get totally out of their depth, and end up spending fortunes.
The Older Gentleman wrote **** me here it goes. He hasn't fucking had the job two fucking minutes and he is here asking us for fucking copy. 5. A basket case is all I can afford.
As a (2) I'd disagree slightly. I wasn't too bothered about the price of the Zephyr, as long as it was "right", IYSWIM. -- Dan L (Oldbloke) My bike 1996 Kawasaki ZR1100 Zephyr M'boy's bike 2003 Honda NSR125R Spare Bike 1990 Suzuki TS50X BOTAFOT #140 (KotL 2005), DIAABTCOD #26, BOMB#18 (slow)
That's fair enough. It's usually worth spending the extra to get a decent one, rather than spending less and thinking: "Oh, that'll be easy and cheap to sort out...." Ask Dodger.
I was thinking about that cheap H1 you bought, which I so nearly bought. In a life full of lucky escapes, I count that as my luckiest.
Heh, made me chuckle that did. -- Dan L (Oldbloke) My bike 1996 Kawasaki ZR1100 Zephyr M'boy's bike 2003 Honda NSR125R Spare Bike 1990 Suzuki TS50X BOTAFOT #140 (KotL 2005), DIAABTCOD #26, BOMB#18 (slow)
You also need to consider that many of us, at a younger age, had /no fucking idea/ of what was good or not. Hence my pathetic nostalgia for shit like the CB500T...
On Sat, 12 Mar 2005 19:20:38 +0000, Why so? All it's had done to it is a cleaned set of carbs, and a new fuel tap. Oh, and a pair of fork seals, where it had stood for ages. Okay, it's been a bit fickle at times, but they were like that when new.
