on a bike, you can happily avoid the A14 and take Verdigris' suggestion.
by car it's a bit more complicated because the A17 etc. are prone to
slow traffic (usually with large loads of straw, for chewing) and it's
quicker to go the long and boring way.

Gah, this means I'll have to read the map now.

Interesting combination of bikes we'll have :)

One spanky GSX-R1000, one reasonable Bandit and a shonky VFR.

Still, I'll get the best fuel consumption (he says optimistically).

Okay - whats a sensible meeting point for people in Oxon, Berks and SW
    London?

Ta to you and Verdigris. I'd just stuck the destination into the RAC website
thing and let it give me the route.

What do you get, you pikey fucker? I'm getting 130-140 to reserve (does
quick computation) which gives me 1,940 kms to the league.

    Conn's up now btw.

Cool - still haven't heard from Oggers.

I'll check the map now, decide a route and then find somewhere to meet on
    it.

    Will let you know.

now I can't get hold of Porl.. what joys :)

Anyway, at least there is some sort of plan.

Probably miss the start (11am) regardless mind you, but it's all good
    experience.

  9. On the same subject anyone going A14ish towards Snetterton?

Was thinking of taking a toodle over there to wish the chaps well...

When the bikes start going round.

11:00 this time - an hour earlierthan usual, because it is an 8-hour
race rather than the normal 6 hours.
    It isn't quite that exciting.

  13. Most of the straw moving on the A17 is going to the new straw burning
power station at Sutton Bridge/Long Sutton. The hay on the other hand is
    probably for chewing.

You didn't miss a great deal (though we [1] did leave around 4pm,
having arrived at 1pm.) Had an enjoyable gentle trundle throughout
most of north Essex and Suffolk on the way there, and an equally
enjoyable hoon throughout the bits we missed the first time (and
some we didn't) on the way back this afternoon.

As to the rest, see other posts...

  16. I've not been paying much attention at the back here for a couple of
months so it could have been. I've been reading through the NG in a rush
every now and again. I might even get out on my bike soon!
