I first heard this one over 20 years ago and it's been US, Aussie, Irish (and probably other countries too). Lets face it; how credible is a radio station running a contest for words that aren't in the dictionary.......
If i ran a radio show i'd have that competition on every once in a while, see if anyone actually rang up with those. I'm sure they would. Cheers, Derek
Really ? That's the only derivation of Smee I've ever heard - I can recall being told that joke in high school (and that's way too long ago to discuss Where else did you get smee from ? JL
In aus.motorcycles on Mon, 9 Feb 2004 08:15:05 +1100 Jeez. Modern culture, ain't got no time for reading. Mindyou, such is the modern idea that only movies count, the mdoern search source, Google, requires you to add the author's name to find anything that *isn't* a movie. IT is possible to find quotes though. "Smee sat, ever industrious and obliging, the essence of the commonplace, pathetic Smee. I know not why he was so infinitely pathetic, unless it were because he was so pathetically unaware of it;" "Feared him! Feared Smee! There was not a child on board the brig that night who did not already love him. He had said horrid things to them and hit them with the palm of his hand, because he could not hit with his fist, but they had only clung to him the more." "It was Smee who tied her to the mast. "See here, honey," he whispered, "I'll save you if you promise to be my mother."" Nothing about motorcycles.... Zebee
Hmmph do way too much reading, kiddies fiction just ain't on the list, didn't read it as a kid either - was too busy reading Asimov and etc JL
