Whats the penatly for having small plates fit to a bike? Just got a tail
tidy for the |Gixxer & a full size plate looks a fucker?

Also, the problem with running was the throttle cables n routed an odd way.
After the service it's runs like a different bike. Gotta get the rear tyre
    scrubbed in now.

I just wish i didn't feel like shit.

I think it's a fixed penalty with no points, far cheaper than a
    speeding ticket.

That would be about right. OK, i wonder what would happen if the plate
displayed the wrong details? I mean, you bought it like that etc?

Yeah, but they would have to be able to prove it & I don't see how they
could. I'm on 6 points & just can't afford to get more for 1mph over a
fucking stupid limit set far too low.

I got done for 35mph towing a caravan uphill & the camera was behind a bush
10 yards after it went from 40-30mph ffs. It's a fucking scam. I do ride on
the quick side, but i drive on the slow side (RR's aint cheap to run at
    speed;)

Whats more important, concentrating on the kid standing at the side of the
road, or the **** tailgating you, or just going 1mph over a ridiculous
limit? No traffic copper would do you for 35mph, i know this as my
neighbours & a few mates are coppers.

    But, heyho.

Nope, it's crap, might as well shove tape on the fucking numberplate & take
    the chance.

The problem is also that if you get a rectification notice and you get
nicked multiple times for a small plate/illegal font or somesuch, the
DVLA will reward your persistence with a Q plate.

My mate has a LR 90 with a plate that reads M*0 MUD[1], it came with
the motor. He does a lot of 4x4 trials with it. Its in mint condition
having been reimported from Zimbabwe and not having a spot of rust
anywhere underneath on the chassis, and he's fitted a new body after he
rolled it backwards on a hilly stage when not competing.

[1]The * denotes a number, but I'm not putting his full reg on usenet.

I've gone slightly small on the Ducati, to tidy up the tail. No issues
so far - it's so subtle you'd need a tape measure to check the legality
    - but it does make a big difference to how the bike looks.

I don't know how bad a plate has to be before you get a pull - but I've
been running pressed steel plates, with iffy spacing and the German TUV
approved font on the shite old Alfa for nearly 2 years and haven't been
pulled, despite having police sat behind me at traffic lights etc.

    I got RR04 MUD for £160, the plate LR04 MUD is up at £4k ;) I feel like a
    bargain came my way...

I also know the chap who has RR06 M*D on a RR SC 4.2 & he takes it off
roading all the time. About £80ks worth...

Sorry, can't remember - just checked all my archived emails and it
    appears I didn't save it.

Took me ages to find someone who would do a plate to my exact specs.,
too. (slightly smaller, retro Ducati strapline).

    <snip>

My RS had a fucking hideous cut down car plate on it when I got it.

It now has a small "show plate" instead, and frankly plod can go ****
    themselves.

Officially it's because the age is not possible to determine and/or
there's a significant proportion of second hand stuff. However, with
insurance the assumption made is that it's in someway a 'special'
which covers everything from a professionally constructed kit car to
    some shonky old trike.

Hmm, interesting. I wasn't that happy with the last service done on it.
I had it done 2 weeks or so before a TOG tour. Week later (and having
done oh, about 50 miles since the service), giving it a clean and
thought I'd check the oil level. Wasn't even registering on the window.
Got out a spirit level to ensure bike was level and still wasn't
showing. Required at least half a litre to get it between the markers.
So tops marks to West London Suzuki for not putting enough oil in...cnuts.

Shame the local independent Suzuki guy I used to use emigrated, as he
    was excellent.

Cheapest way to get round this is to find a used frame with V5 and swop
everything over from one to the other. That gives you a new reg number
and your inurance isn't as high as it would be on a Q plate. You'll pay
the cost of a new frame in the additional insurance premium, and lose
on the value of the bike as well.

I have only had half a front plate on my car for more than a month
(1), police cars, road side ANPR cameras and yesterday, a VOSA
roadside check on the A1 have all ignored it.

    (1) Some scrote snapped it off. See my post a coulpe of weeks ago.
