smack in the face...

Depending on speed and weather there are times when I'll ride with
visor up and enjoy the breeze..

and there are times when I'll close the visor and a minute later get a
smack in the face from a stone thrown up by the motor in front.

When it happens in a car I normally see it coming in but I never seen
the stone that hits me on the bike.

Suppose life is a balancing act....

  2. It was always bees or wasps when I rode years ago - somehow I always managed
to put the visor down seconds before the thing thwapped into it. Nowadays I
always have the visor closed, or almost closed, because I'm older and more
    worldly-wise/cowardly.

Yup, getting grit in your eyes is also potentially a day-ruining
    experience too.

I hit a bumble bee at 65mph, dead center on the visor. The impact blew
the poncy Iridium [1] coating off.

[1] It looked way cool but I stick to dark smoke these days.
