Anywhere that does a decent pint in the Slough/Windsor area? I'm on a
course at CA from Sunday eve till late wednesday, staying at the
    Slough/Windsor Marriott.

I'm even sociable if you want to join me for a pint

  2. May God have mercy on your soul. CA *and* Slough. Who did you upset?

ime, Slough pubs are chavvy and Windsor ones aer pretentious or full of
squaddies - in fact, though, those are the ones that are the best fun and do
the best ale. I'd go up to Farnham Royal, I tihnk. Empress of India - food
is great. CA is closer to Langley, wehere I happen to sometimes work, but
    the pubs there are dire.
    Heh.

I never thought I'd say this, but you may be best off hopping on a train
to Maidenhead. The pubs are crap, but you can get a reasonable pints in
the Rose, the Bear or the Hand and Flower.

But you're in Langley, so the only real option is to wander over to the
Toby Carvery opposite, grab a plate of meat and a pint of Tetleys, and
wish you'd booked a hotel somewhere else.

  5. <shudder> I've been in that Toby, it's pants. The carpet moves, I swear it
does. I'd get a cab up to Hayes Tandoori or the decent curry house at
Sipson. Oh, there's a fairish pub on the wee roundabout on the road towards
Iver. Bother. Can't recall the name.

If it's a curry you're looking for, then you could go far worse than the
Emperor of India at Braywick roundabout.

Stop! What am I thinking! The Harrow in Langley is just about within
walking distance. It's the best pub in the world!

My 10 year old good beer guide (should really buy a new one) lists 3
pubs in Windsor.. Prince Christian - Kings Rd, Two Brewers - Park St,
    Vansittart Arms - Vansittart St.

They might all be shit now, or have been knocked down... but at least
you can post about your adventures finding them...

  10. If'n he wishes to catch a bus into Uxbridge, or a train to West
Drayton, I could be convinced to join him at an Establishment somewhere
    nearby.

This is a course run on behalf of WilyTech. I've been using Introscope for
over 12 months now and just delivered a massive project across 12 apps and
NOW they send me on the course!
Cheers for the info, I'm looking at catching the train into London
probably Tuesday evening so just looking for a drink Sunday after driving
down and then something for Monday.

  14. Sorry, I've been out of my head with jet-lag and "something else" all
week (low glucose? -- I ate very little in America).

A web search shows that the "Slough-Windsor" Marriott is in
Langley, about 5 or 6 km from here up the B470, or about a mile from the
Langley railway station, which connects with West Drayton on the
Paddington line. The No. 58 bus to Uxbridge passes down Station Road a
little closer to the hotel before diverting down Langley Road. Unfortunately
this bus doesn't seem to run back after 2047 on weeknights...

    Trains from West Drayton leave at 21:52 22:22 22:49 23:23 23:57
for a 6-minute journey to Langley. So it seems the options are to risk
your self-control and travel by car, or to meet in W. Drayton (there's a
pub right close by the station, but I've not been there) so you can catch
a train back from there. I'm midway between UXB & WD, so I can swing
    either way.

There are also buses 75 & 76 from Heathrow through Langley, but
it takes about 30 mins to get to Heathrow from here on the U3 bus.

As an aside, I'll be at Royal Holloway Uni in Egham Wed afternoon
and foresee taking the 441 bus back to LHR afterwards, then catching the
U3 home; I could change those plans.
