Slippy Seats...

I don't know if the previous owner of the FZR has cleaned the seat with
polish or something, but I keep sliding back on the seat whenever I
    accelerate anything other than 'gently'.

Currently, I'm resorting to moving to the back of the seat before I try
    accelerating hard.

What can I clean the seat with that will clean anything that might be making
it slippy off, without damaging the surface?

  11. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
Probably cleaned it with Mr Sheen or some other silicone spray. Try
scrubbing it with ordinary soapy water to get rid of the silicone.

Went out for a quick ride to the dentists and to pick up an oil filter today
in jeans instead of the textile pants I was wearing yesterday, and it was
    much better.

So I'm hoping my leathers will grip quite nicely, and that it was more the
pants at fault than the seat. Though I haven't had this problem on any other
bike with those pants... Even with the TZR's powerband.

A combination of a slipper seat (on my old VFR750FH) and dried-out leathers,
triggered a major panic attack when trying to get round the North Circular
on a wet Friday night a few years ago.

I couldn't keep my arse on the seat, my feet kept slipping off the alloy
pegs and the factory Dunlops were sliding all over the road.

As the panic attack took hold every little twitch felt like a major slide.
By the time I got home I was wrecked.

A good scrub (soap) of the seat of the bike, a bit of leather oil on the
pants and a pair of Michelins soon had me smiling again.

    OH- Guest

This one brings back memories. What is safer - textile or leather ?

Years ago a mate and I did some off roading on some abandoned
military land. I used leathers then but he had some textile kit.
Gravel road became tractor road, tractor road became two earth
tracks, two tracks became fern covered single track.
So I hit a fallen branch that is totally hidden in the ferns but no
problem. My friend then hits it and slides right into his big Tenere
tank - ouch - and has to sit a few moments to recover. We press
on until there is not the slightest excuse for a road and turn back.

We hit the same branch again, again no problem for me as I'm
nearly glued to the saddle. This time matey must have been going
a tad faster because his face turns green and he has to get off
the bike and crouch down for a couple of minutes.

    Leathers ARE safer.

If, like me, you insist on the comforts of textile the ones with a
leather bit sewn on to the seat area is a good idea.
