After watching the bike raceing from Japan
and Ollerton last weekend I got to wondering.

On the same track in a head to head race who
would win between the fastest bike and the the
    fastest F1 car?

A quick google suggests that the lap records for Catalunya are :-
    F1 - Schumacher - 1:17
    MotoGP - Rossi - 1:44

Since that's the only circuit they're both using this year, it's the
closest we're likely to get to knowing.

Even the slowest F1 car would thoroughly trounce the fastest bike.

Adrian vaguely muttered something like ...
I think, though this may stand correction, that the F1 cars use a different
layout of the circuit to the bikes ... so the lap times are not necessarily
worth comparing. Been googling myself, but can't find anything to say yeah
    or nay ...

Looks very similar, from the two "official websites" - www.formula1.com and
    www.motogp.com

I can't imagine that F1 would run on that much shorter a circuit than the
bikes to make that big a difference.

At the end of the day, there's only one thing that *really* matters - which
is more entertaining to watch. And that's a no-brainer.

    Sorry, Bernie & Schu.

Yes, but even a moped derby would be more interesting than F1.

I think all you need to say yeah or nay are a couple of hp & weight
figures, & some common sense. An F1 car has 50% higher power to weight
ratio, more or less. That, coupled with the far greater amount of
rubber on the ground, plus the ability to accelerate flat out without
flipping & brake as hard as all that rubber & downforce will allow,
again without flipping, makes it a bit of a no brainer imo.

As for corner speed, you only have to see one decent shot from a well
positioned camera on the tv to see the jaw-dropping speeds an F1 car
goes round bends. Bikes win hands down in the entertainment race though!

  10. Last year I was forced to compete in a 24 hour lawn mower race
Even THAT was more interesting then F1

With enough beer on tap and a good BBQ going that could be a lot of fun.

    Not so fast, Mr Champ!

    The 600Kg F1 weight limit is *including* driver - so that's 1.5 p/w
    ratio.

I used 240 for the bike power as that's the last figure I remember Mr
Moody coming up with, but I'll give you that one. So that leaves us
    with a 36%ish difference - I think (it's late).

I think the Ducati might make 250bhp, but the others are definitely
less, so it's moot. And avg rider weight might be closer to 75kg than
    80.
However you diddle with the numbers, the F1 car has *significantly*
    better P/W than a bike.

However, F1 cars throw a lot of the horsepower at the ground for grip,
meaning that MotoGP bikes accelerate faster than an F1 car, certainly
once rolling. I recall hearing that at Mugello, the bikes go round
the last corner at about 75mph, and achieve a top speed of 215 (!),
while the cars corner at about 120mph but peak at 190mph down the same
    straight.

    Fair enough ;-}
When I wrote it, it seemed a sensible question but
Who am I to judge sensible or not.
I asked cause the bikes were doing about 180
down the straight and I thought that F1 only
get to a similar speed. Forgot about the corners
though. Oh well I'll get me coat.

    Cheers taz.

I love bikes and this is a bike ng I'll agree but
are you saying that you would refuse the chance
to drive a F1 car. I know I'd love a go in one.
