good show. Will you have to wear a suit? I imagine you look funny in a
    suit.
    too

I already /do/ architecture from an application point of view, but I
think I need more occurences of the word "enterprise" in my CV, and
maybe a few more "integration"s. Probably need to learn to lie fluently
    about MQ-Series/Tibco/whatever-is-flavor-of-the-month right now. Hell,
I've even been on a .NET course now, things being in such a state of
    flux.

We all have to apply for positions in the new org, and although permies
are assured some sort of position, I want to make sure I don't end up
    in marketing. Again.

Most of the IT people I've spoken to want jobs in various Front Office
support or development roles, because in theory that's where the money
is, but I think it's a pretty short-term view, given the fact the
"sexy" part of this industry is heading towards heuristic/expert-system
market predictions, rather than crusty old Javascript & ASP based
    trading systems.

Maybe. All the C+W bunch wear suits, but the takeover seems to be something
of a reverse affair, culturally at least, so there's a mixture of suits, and
casual. On the basis that you always get taken more seriously in a suit,
I'll give it a go to start with, and maybe slacken off to suit-without-tie or
    posh-shirt-linen-jacket-and-nice-jeans-a-la-fulham
YM totally fucking nails, in a slightly gangsterish yet non-threatening way
That's one of the reasons for moving - exposure to EAI stuff. Totally
fucking boring, but nigh-on essential for the IT executive about town these
    days

Judicious hedging of bets with "may", "appears to" and "should" generally
    works for me ...

Or, to be accurate, the market is absolutely saturated with clean
    low-mileage identikit sports 600s.

  7. Sounds quite reasonable to me. He's telling you he's trade, he's
acknowledging he is going to add a mark-up because he has to eat - so
    what's the prob?

  8. I'll take the Cixxer and five grand against this knackered old Combat
    750.

It's a bit of a worry, though, being a prophet in your own land.

Mine sold from a dealership in just over a week.

Mind you, I now have a virtually unique bike ;-)

It's good that he's keeping the s/h market buoyant, though. Public

I know you have enjoyed benefits from the job to date but this sort of
HR/(mis)management fuckwittery would be beyond my tolerance level. I am
    a grumpy old **** though.

It seriously doesn't bother me at all. Everyone in IT below the head
honcho is in the same boat. Loads of people are jumping ship early - at
    the rate of about 2 resignations[0] a week. I think that's mad - I'm
going to just ride out the storm and see what happens - either I'll get
a position I like with more money, or I'll get something very
similar[1] to what I have now, or I'll get something I don't like. Only
in the last case will I leave[2].

[0] including one who has provisionally offered me a position at his
    new place
[1] the exact position won't exist due to the nature of the Changes.
[2] I really could do with a bit more training before moving, though.

I'm vaguely interested in the situation. Who kicked off this round robin
and why? It must be having an effect on operations? What is it meant to
    achieve?

Over Chancery Lane way, isn't it? You'll be near the krazy Olde Dutch
    pancake shoppe.
I do suit + semi-casual shirt + no tie. Saves having to think what to
    wear in the morning.

Jacket and jeans is a bit "Jeremy Clarkson" for my liking.
    non-threatening way

no offense, but I can't imagine you looking "fucking nails", mate.
