Slightly annoying

Aye... after two emails had already been exchanged, with the last one quite
clearly stating £3.3k as the bottom line; then coming back, saying it's too
much for them, purely because they're a dealer... well did he expect Andy to
email him back and then say 'Oh well in that case, you best have it for £3k
    then'.

I guess that's the bit I found 'cheeky', as it were.

You're missing the point. He didn't let me know he was a dealer when
he made the offer. Now, had I been less informed on the value of the
bike, I might have gone for it, probably never found out he was a
dealer (and therefore with access to Glasses) and I'd have been
effectively been conned out of a couple of hundred on the deal. Now
    you do see?

Just mind I don't find out where you live and come round to scratch
    your paint.

I completely fail to "see". Glasses Guide has got nothing to do with
it - it's only an indication. The fact that you failed to sell it on
the open market at the price you wanted leads to only one conclusion -
it was over-priced for the age/location/condition/time of year. The
dealer wouldn't pay 3300 cos it's not worth 3300 to him. Still seems
perfectly reasonable to me, and I don't see how the fact that he's in
the trade effects things at all.

I just hope you don't find out that I'm really an art dealer.

so he told you he was a dealer as soon as you asked for a better offer?

    What's the problem?

*Shrug*. That's a bit of a rattle there, Mr Champion. If he'd said at
the time of the first offer "I'm a dealer, I'll offer you XX", then
fine. As it was he was trying to put one over on me and that's
"Cheeky". If someone trying to con you doesn't bother you, then that's
    up to you.

Just to add my own puzzlement, in what way *exactly* was he trying to
'put one over' on you. As others have said, he offered what he was
prepared to pay - you refused it. What difference would there have
been to this non-transaction if he'd not been a dealer?
Con you? How? Was he going to give you a false cheque? Or forged
    fivers?

Oh blimey. Sure, I fully understand the mechanics of trading ;-) Like
I said to Neil, if he'd been open from the start, no problem. But it
wasn't. I want to sell, but I'm not giving it away. The price is
fair, so there it is. I can get the dealer price anytime I want, but
I'd rather not so I take on the hassle and cost of sticking on Ebay.
That's why I wasn't happy about a dealer thinking he can pick it up
from mug punter for the dealer buy in price.

Not yet, but fact is I've got two others interested, one of whom has
tentively offered what I want, subject to seeing it.

Just because someone disagrees with you, they're not necessarily
rattle throwing, you know. I, and others, completely fail to see
where there might have been any "con" in this non-transaction.

If you can't see it by now, I can't help. The odd thing is I mentioned
it here and the people I worked with all thought the guy was trying it
on - yeah, I know that's like one of Des' validational conversations
;-). Dunno why it is that UKRM seems much happier for dealers to try
to rip people off. Oh well. If I ever open a bike shop remind me to
    invite you lot all in.

    Logically, it's a GSX-R1000.

Either way, you're not actually going to ride it are you?
