For Ginge, superbly demonstrating that he does indeed, have a shaky knowledge of geography. On leaving the hotel in Chepy yesterday morning, Ginge and I duly head into Abbeville and stop at a petrol station to get some water. We know we need the N1 out of Abbeville but aren't sure where we pick it up. "Whatever you do, don't head towards Amiens", I said to Ginge. Whether he actually heard me say this is a moot point. Anyway, we find the N1 and continue on our merry way. Now firstly, the N1 we are on is very straight and the surrounding fields very flat. I didn't remember this from Friday when we had taken the N1 from Boulougne to Abbeville. Secondly, I spotted a sign saying "Amiens 35km". Then I realised that if we were heading North, the sun should be slightly behind us, not ahead. I go past Ginge, indicate right and pull over. Ginge protests: "But I'm heading for that town there", he says pointing to the map, "and there was a sign for it back there". Hmmm, we take a closer look. On the N1, heading South out of Abbeville is a village callled Flixecourt. On the N1 heading North out of Abbeville is a village called Flexicourt. Note the subtle difference in spelling. Luckily, we are only about 10km out of Abbeville, so a quick about turn and we still made it to Calais in time for the 14:00 ferry.
