When you've had an accident that makes you think '**** that was close, nearly killed myself that time' then the body automatically looks for an opportunity to reproduce. Conscious thought doesn't come into it, it's all to do with passing the genes on. Strange really, you're battered broken and bleeding and all you can think of is getting your rocks off. In reality if anyone came within 'striking distance' you'd probably scream your head off. Then again, maybe it's just me. It does strike me as a rather extreme way to crack a stiffy though, I'm sure in retrospect that viagra would have been a better idea.
