Wife and I went by Blockbuster and rented a couple movies to
copy...er, uh watch. We picked up The Hunted (Tommy Lee Jones) and
Chicago (Richard Gere, Catherine Zeta Jones). Those were the WORST
flix I've seen in a long long time. We started to ask for our money
back, and if I'd been sitting in a theater I would have. The Hunted is
just a re-make of First Blood and had a cross of The Fugitive in it.
Chicago was FREAKY and we couldn't follow the story line.

It's pretty bad when the best movies of the year have been Bowling for
Columbine (highly recommended) and Finding Nemo.

Does anyone have any other suggestions on movies to rent lately?

What kind of movies are you into? That would help me out a bit.

If you liked Pulp-Fiction or those types of movies, check out The
Boondock Saints. It's a pretty good flick.

BTW - I use Netflix http://www.netflix.com if you have a DVD player
it's a pretty good deal. Only real drawback is if you get an itch to
see a particular movie RIGHT NOW! lol

I saw Pulp Fiction and have a copy of it on CD (DivX). I was sorta
indifferent to that one only because of the language/violence that
made little sense at times. I liked the rotation of events they used
in the movie that didn't make sense until the very end...and only then
did you realize you were sorta watching the movie in reverse.

BTW, what do you think was in the briefcase?

Another thriller that was really well made and didn't make sense until
the very end was The Sixth Sense.

If you're into comedy flix, you HAVE to include The Villain (Kirk
    Douglas, Ann Margret)!

    I just don't know any recent one's.
The DVD player is a sore subject right now with me. I'm one of the
one's who bought one when they first hit the market (6 movies to
choose from and took a chance it wasn't a BetaMAX). I have a LaserDisc
player, but wanted to see what the hype was about on the DVDs. The one
I bought cost $490. Now, you can buy one with as much features as that
had (maybe not as good quality) for under $40. I replaced that one
though with a 6.1 DTS DVD player/system along with a 62" TV. I gave my
original DVD player to my Dad so he could enjoy DVDs too. But, he
won't ever buy, rent, steal a DVD to play in it. I also bought him
Lonesome Dove (his one and only DVD)...damn he's a cheapskate. :)

Next he'll be wanting me to watch a movie for him too. :)

I've been thinking about doing Netflix, but I never have found the
time/effort to commit to it. Is their service good? Compared to
    Blockbuster, how would they rate?

well, I am a little more into the darker humor and violence type thing
than you, then. You might or might like Boondock Saints, then. It is
definitely in the same vein, just not quite as strange.
I watch the movie and think of it as heroin. That seems to fit the
rest of the film pretty good.
Yes. That was a good flick. Especially if you watch it again after
knowing what happens. They did a very good job on it.
well, Blockbuster can suck my c**k!!! Sorry MOFOs had a credit
reporting service send me an invoice for a $2.00 late fee and said
they were going to file it on my credit report if I didn't pay 'em. I
took the letter along with my $2.00 down to the store and asked for
the manager. Told him I would never rent from them again and threw my
money and the letter down and left.

Netflix had some problems early on with not having all the latest
releases as quick as the video stores. However, you could never beat
it at finding old or odd releases. Now, they seem to be just as
good. Like I said, the major drawback is getting an itch for a
particular movie and you don't have it right then and there.

I will have to check this one out. I've been hearing good things about it.
What exactly is Higginbotham & Associates?

Arnold played the good guy. I liked that movie. If you haven't seen it,
Signs is a good movie and not to spoil it, but the signs are not what the
    movie poster implies.

  11. You got screwed, remember this next time with who ever you deal with. They
aren't going to file a credit report on you for $2. It costs around $150 to
file and send to a collections agency. I didn't pay the bullsh*t $10 they
wanted to charge me. Told them to stick it and never paid. Soon after they
lost a suit for overcharging their customers on late fees. Haven't been
back since and I've never had it filed on my credit report.

  12. I rented Basic. Its not bad but the movie keeps twisting the plot all the
way through. Some parts are easy to see whats coming, but the ending had me
second guessing. The movie is rated R for language and violence, still I
tend to see movies with Samuel L. Jackson.

If you liked that, check out Memento. It has two chronologies
intertwined. It starts off in color and goes back in forth between
color and black and white. The color scenes show events in a reverse
chronology. The black and white scenes start further back and move
forward. The two meet towards the end of the movie.
Something very similar happens with Memento. You start making sense
of the thing fairly early on, but the ending puts a very interesting
spin on everything you thought you understood.

I strongly recommend watching this movie with no interruptions and all
the way through -- at least twice.
I remember seeing this one on the big screen. It had some really
    funny scenes.

    More "Moebius Filmstrips":

I highly recommend "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead" with Gary Oldman
    and Tim Roth.

    It's like Wimbledon with words.

Also, following Tim Roth to another film, "Deceiver" also starring
    Christopher Penn and Michael Rooker.

Roth is freakin' incredible in that one...

BTW- anyone see the new Vulcan 2000cc V-twin? Overall a much nicer bike than
the Honda VTX1800 or Rune- the two bikes that it seems to fall between,
    genre-wise.

    The upcoming Triumph 2300cc inline-triple needs a re-style job before it'll
look anywhere near as nice. Choosing to have 2 mufflers on one side and 1 on
the other as well as the appearance of the fuel tank on the intake side-
someone's been sneaking some absinthe in to the design guys again...
