There are GS versions of the BMW 800 / 650 plus KTM's 690. Am sure
there are some others... Honda's whatever it's called for one,
Aprillia as in Bruce and Jean..

If Ewan and Charlie had ridden a Ténéré you would see more of them on
    the road.

KTM must be pig-sick that they didn't let them have bikes.

The subframes would have snapped by the time they got to the South
    Circular.

Well to be fair KTM did advise them that they wouldn't make it.

If my experience is anything to go by, their chains would have snapped
when they got to the South Circular, and their subframes would have
snapped about a hundred yards from New York.

Joking aside (and I wish I was joking)... the subframe on Claudio's GS
    did snap in Mongolia.

Apart from problems due to one dodgy wiring connection I've enjoyed
owning the Tenere. It just does what it's supposed to do and it crashes
well so what's not to like?

Back when I was young (1980ish) I found the idea of big singles appealing
and I think that the bike I lusted after then was a Yamaha XT500 (or SR500
road going version). Would I be right in thinking that this is just the
    updated version?

    What's it like for vibration?

Not bad unless some spanner monkey has fucked up the balance shaft timing.

I was dicing with an MT-03 on my commute home. Looked a bit funky but
**** me it's bulky. Only 48 ponies and 195kg wet. How the **** do they
make something so simple weigh so much and put out so little power?

    Fuckwit.

You've not ridden one of the newer Yamaha 660cc singles have you?

BMW F650GS, now with an 800cc parallel twin and sub £6650 price tag, which
seems to be a bit lower than the Tenere

So presumably the full-dress tourer version will be called the
    cross-dresser.

That's conjured up the rather awful vision of Salad Dodger in a frock.
    Mind-bleach please, stat!
