I followed that one with "but your brother probably doesn't want to
    **** you".

Ended up in bed with her a few hours later.

It a confrontational and competitive human world the primary role of govmint
has to be a central role in creating and growing national private industry
and in promoting our industry abroad. Thatcher simply didn't get it and was
the beginning of the end of our industrial base. Her doings coincided with
the re-emergence of China and the growth of India. Bit of a perfect storm
    really.

She didn't understand tax policy either. Tax has to be simple
straightforward cheap and easy to collect with broad public support. The
poll tax was none of those things. She started off a process of tax system
complication too which NL have taken even further.

She didn't understand social policy and immigration either, did she.

If only UK trade unions did something useful and mainly in the Private
Sector. You and I both know what they are now so how are they particularly
    relevant.

I don't agree. In Blair the socialists had an orator with personal charisma.
Cameron just makes me feel uneasy. The socialists also created a policy
agenda which appealed to a large sector of voters and managed to
disseminate it effectively. The current Tory lot fail both of those tests.

So the election is going to be something of a chance outcome with a very low
    turnout.

He has no charisma. He isn't an orator. He doesn't Chair the cabinet,
distill the collective wisdom and present Group Policy. All the qualities a
    PM/President needs to have.

Like at BA? If that traitor Walsh has his way, he will break Unite
    with scab pilots.
I know what *some* of them are.

What fucking socialists? NuLab are more Tory than the Tories.

The only connection they have with socialism, since John Smith died,
has been the colour of their rosette.

Then again, I can see how the UK can seem positively Maxist... from
    the PoV of a NeoCon.

You are missing an important point. The Labour party is virtually bankrupt
and has a serious shortage of donors. The Conservatives have a nice fat
war chest and more to come if they need it. Even the Liberals have a
    decent campaign budget.

When the election campaign gets off to a proper start there is going to
be a big difference in campaign spending which will leave Labour unable
to compete for hearts and minds.
Our local Labour candidate (who has no chance anyway) has to pay for
    printing his own leaflets.

Also true for right of centre - hence Cameron's move towards the
    centre.

This is a bit over-simplified, but in essence if you graph numbers of
people (vertically) against political persuasion (from left wing to
right wing, horizontally) you get a bell curve. The nearer a party
moves towards the centre the greater the number of votes it gets.
    Dingly ding!
    There we differ.

The turning point was their response to 9/11. Up to that point - their
first term - they were a popular government. Ever since then they've
slid down the toilet at an ever-increasing rate and the fact that the
Iraq war didn't send them round the u-bend five years ago is only
testament to how useless the tories were at the time.
