Silicone lubricant - any good?

Having bought an aerosol can of silicone lubricant down the local
hardware store, I noticed that according to the label it appears to
have hundreds of uses, e.g. castors, drawers, locks. Its supposed to be
quite inert stuff. Has anyone got any idea if it would work as a water
    displacement agent on a visor?

I've googled for 'silicone lubricant', but most of the hits are from
the type of shop in which you wouldn't want to bump into your mum.

If you really want this function, I'd use something made for the
purpose such as Rain-X, or something known to work (without distorting
vision as WD-40 or similar may do) such as Mr Sheen the furniture
polish. There is a rumour/urban myth about Mr Sheen weakening visors,
leading to crazing or premature failure, but I know lots of people who
have used it for extended periods without a problem.

  4. You's have to be a complete retard to spray WD40 on a windscreen
instead of, for instance de-icer. Took bloody ages to finally clear,
every time it rained there was a million rainbows.

Indeed you would - or possibly taking subtle revenge on an
inconsiderate neighbour. Allegedly. It's a real fucker how similar
those cans look in the dark.

It's only wax with a thinning propellant.
