Yes, sorry. I just read through that last bit and it was a bit cunty.
I'm really quite liberal, but I think these 'silences' are pointless.
I'm in a bit of a shitty mood. Sorry If I caused offence.

Surfin' USA is only a two minute song.
You could also do Peter Gabriel's "Here Comes The Flood"
or "Waiting For The Big One", both of which have curiously
    appropriate lyrics.

  6. I'm prolly a bit oversensitive on this at the moment. I know that
150,000 people have died, and that's terrible IMHO - but a close friend
of mine who was holidaying in Thailand with her parents is still
unaccounted for - as are her parents.

They'd rented a beach front bungalow.

Might be Ok, but it's looking less likely each day isn't it?

It's never about the masses, it is always about the individuals, a
disaster consists of many individual disasters.
On your situation it could be that they are helping with the rescue and
I sincerley hope this is the case.

  9. It's fingers crossed here - no answer on any of their mobiles, but that
could be the infrastructure, or just that the batteries are flat!

They should have been back in the UK by now, but no sign yet. Again
could be a lot of reasons. Lets hope so. I'm not a big one for
praying, quite the opposite, but I've spent the last few days hoping he
    had her under his protection.

  11. Yes - no news. I rang them a couple of days ago.

Not too sure whether a couple of arthritic pensioners would actually
stay to help with the tidy up and Nikki (the friend) would be unlikely
to keep them there against their will just to help.

Still, no news isn't always bad news.

  13. I agree with all that. And although the silence stuff is a bit OTT, I
do think it's totally out of order to teach kids to sing 'amusing'
songs during the time other people are showing a little respect for
    what has happened.

I doubt that I'll observe the silence either - probably be too busy for
a start. But I wont be rushing about whooping and hollering and
spoiling it for the others who want to be mawkish.
Old skool was caring and considerate. Actually it was the opposite,
but only if it was funny.

The world's gorn really mad now.

Apparently pop singers including Sir Cliff Richard and Boy George are
recording a charity single to help raise funds for victims of the Asian
tsunami. It's written by Mike Read[1], and called "Grief Never Grows
    Old".

And Ronan Keating will join in if "a studio can be found close to where
he is holidaying in Switzerland.". Well, you wouldn't want to **** up
    the skiing, would you?

Excuse me, I have to go and puke.

Bugger; hope they've escaped the worst. I'd have been surprised if a
disaster of that magnitude hadn't affected someone of my acquaintance,
the world being the small place it is now.

In the small town down the road from me, a friend's neighbour is
unaccounted for and an ICQ buddy of mine lives just a couple of miles
inland from the area (both in or near Phuket).

Lets hope so. I am just being over zealous. I sent a pissed text to my
sister last night that read 'Happy fucking New year'.
Now my Mum, Dad and sister aren't talking to me.
For some reason I'm quite upset by it all. Usually I'd say **** em, however
we are losing a close friend to liver cancer soon
and all this arguing and non communication brings home the triviality of it
    all really.

Over a 'fucking'? Sheesh. Mind you mine probably wouldn't be all that
chuffed being old school religious nutters. Now where did I put that
    mobile?
There comes a time when you have to work out if toeing the family line
is worth it. I've found moving away and gritting my teeth on the
couple of occasions a year they manage to track me down helps.
So say that - only without the **** em bit cos I don't think that
    would help...
