For the New Year break. I'm off to get *fucking* leathered in Dubai. Play nicely, kids.

weather report on the Beeb just reckoned ity was colder last night in Dubai than in Aberdeen! Even snow around at higher places in the Gulf area. -- Steve Parry http://www.gwynfryn.co.uk http://www.arrivedeprived.org.uk/ K100RS SE F650 (not forgetting the SK90PY)
I don't know about that. Apart from the formal-wear dinner-dance I went to on NYE, I wore shorts the whole time. Don't know how many pasty porridge-wogs could say the same. I saw that in the paper; it was a way out of town.
Well the World Weather on BBC World was making much play of how cold it was in the Gulf and that they had had snow in one location. In Hong Kong the temperatures thoughtfully dipped to about 10 degrees just so that I felt at home - harrumph. Still it was mildly amusing watching the HK residents wrapped in scarves and thick coats when the temperature fell as low as 10-12 degrees - they don't know what cold is. Still I don't know what living through a typhoon is like.
Oh it was due to hurtle back up to 19-20 degrees by Tuesday so it should be very pleasant at those sorts of temperatures. http://www.weather.gov.hk/contente.htm
Between 17 and 21°C for when I'm due to be there. Not sure I like the 90% RH but beggars can't be choosers. What are doing over there anyway? Busman's holiday on the MTR?
Well there's loads of air conditioning so you can easily escape the worst of the humidity. The only humidity I felt was waiting for the Airbus at the airport when I arrived. The rest of the time it was too cool to appreciate any RH. I'm now back over here in the UK. I just opted to escape the Christmas and New Year "jollity". I only used the MTR a few times but I will concede that there was some other transport stuff that I did go and look at while I was there - both on the KCRC network [1]. Oh and I went to the seaside twice - once at Stanley via a fantastic mountain road and then to Sai Kung out in the New Territories again via some fantastic and mildly terrifying mountain roads. Why are you going there? and when is the great departure to NZ taking place? [1] East Tsim Sha Tsui extension and Ma On Shan rail.
As you may have guessed the two are connected. I am leaving Blighty for New Zealand on Wednesday and stopping over for a couple of nights in Hong Kong on the way. I've been to Hong Kong before so I have seen a few - but certainly not all - of the sights. I was mainly planning to do some shopping[1] and a little sight seeing. Expect a signing off posting in the next day or so. 1. For a suit, digicam and laptop - probably in that order.
Neg, Tony. Have a good trip, and re-sub when you can, eh? Who's going to supervise Sean while you're gone?
It will probably be a couple of months before I do unless it's via google. God knows, but I'll keep an eye on the group to find out when the BOSM is and you'll be able to ask him yourself. If you weren't in the Middle East, that is.
[hong kong] Ah. The temperature in both places will be similar but the humidity will not be. I don't blame you for taking a stopover break - I've done Sydney to London as one flight (barring an hour's break in Singapore) and wouldn't really want to do it again. Hello Big Sir - you want good suit - come this way. Copy watch, copy watch. We sell you one at nice price. The memories of Nathan Road and Tsim Sha Tsui are flooding back. I wish you the best of luck with your negotiating skills! All the very best for your new start down under.
