Decent wedge is an ambiguous term, to someone on minimum wage 20K is
probably decent wedge. To you who knows.
Yes it is but I know people who have next to nowt but are happy and some
people to who money is the be all and end all and their life revolves
purely around getting more of it. They often don't realise what they have
already. How many lottery winners end up losing the thing that made people
    like them.

Lucky you. This could depend more on where you live originally than
anything else. There are a lot more jobs in London/SE than in the wilds of
    East Lancs.
But I didn't want to come over all condescending.)

I don't think it's changed _that_ much in the last two years, has it?

Your idea of "easy" commute is possibly different to others....

Depends what area you were in and so forth.

Also bear in mind Rope doesn't exactly live in the IT/Financial heart of the
    country.

    The former. Started in 2000.
Yeah, I know this, but just because the demand is lower doesn't
automatically imply you'd have to live at the far end of the country
    to find a job.

Each way? Doesn't that get a bit expensive.. not only in fuel.

When I was considering commuting on the GSX-R (60 miles each way), it turned
out to be frightenly expensive when servicing[1],tyres[2],fuel, kit[3],
risk[4] and other things were taken into account.

    Okay, a GSX-R isn't a 'good' commuter bike, but I wouldn't really want a
    bike just for commuting.

[1] not even going to _try_ service my bike myself.
[2] yes I could fit 020, or rocks of whatever, but I don't want those on the
    weekend.
[3] stuff wears out, jackets, boots, gloves etc.
[4] train - minimal risk, high frustration. Bike - much higher risk
    (filtering etc), lower frustration.

I was being a bit, deliberately, obtuse. But as a rule of thumb a tank
for the round trip figures in do-able and easy if not necessarily
    desirable decisions.

I commuted 120 miles each way for a while (which became weekends for a
time then back to daily) MZ mounted.

In this instance I'd would run two machines. GSX-R, Guzzi, whatever as
transport and an MZ, Jap UJM etc. as a commuter hack.

    Simple economics and practicality.

    Fun doesn't feature very often.

"Not Fun" are those mornings when the traffic is stationary
    practically from door to door.
