Sigma bicycle computer

Discussion in 'Motorbike Technical Discussion' started by Rob Kleinschmidt, Sep 8, 2005.

  1. Got the computer and a rear mount kit on order.

Is anybody running one of these on their motorcycle? Any suggestions
or stuff to watch out for ? Anybody rigged up a light ? I figure
the light ought to run off the electrical system rather than
buying the Sigma battery operated gizmo.

    Thanks for any thoughts.

Get a 12V LED from Radio Shuck & wire it in as you like (with sheet tin
cover to keep direct light out of your eyes). Choice of colors (blue or
green would probably be best for seeing things at night w/o destroying your
night vision -- red would probably be too dim). The ones on the wall rack
are low (candle)power; the leads are unmarked, but a 2-second test will show
the right hookup. (This was my cure for an inoperative hi-beam indicator &
worked great, if not a bit too bright for that application -- plenty of
light for reflected viewing of any instrument.)

Blue light is the worst of the three options, WRT retaining your night
vision, as the human eye is least sensitive to blue light. There's lots
of research out there that confirms these results. Red is best, though
there can be some contrast problems depending on the particular
    equipment in use.

I'd start with a red LED, and move to other colors if necessary.

'indiana' is a 'nolnn' and 'hoosier' is a 'solkk'. Indiana doesn't solkk.

  4. I picked up a $2 orange unit with built in resistor for 12v
from Radio Shack. Tried it briefly jumpered to the battery and
it looks OK to read the instrument by.

Haven't recieved the rear mount kit yet. Still thinking about
the wheel mounted magnet and how to mount it. I've got a few
left over magnets from my Sonicare toothbrush that are fairly
strong, though I haven't figured out the mount yet. (Glue maybe ?)

    I appreciate the suggestions.
