More yes, but probably not bikes tbh. Selling those two means I can
get the remaining ones into one garage so I don't have to rent a
second one, which is not fun given the usual London lock-up prices.

    Maybe a decent car[1] for a change...

Of course, if someone has a good R90S for sale...

[1] So why have I been looking at Rover P6s today then?

Just out of interest seeing as I haven't lived in London for years -
can you give an indication of "the usual price"?
Naturally this will vary enormously but I'm prepared to be astonished.

Heheheh, oh the joys of living 'in the sticks' where land costs sod all ..
well, it used to .. ;)
    Heheheh ...
Same reason anyone looks at them .. they're SOC's in the 'classic' sense of
being SOC's. Personally I have a Discovery, and recently sold a Series 3
    Landrover. I'm currently looking for another S3 .. ;)

    Between 30-800[1] quid/month. Around 50/month where I live.
[1] Chelsea or Kensington, can't remember which. Nearly fell off the
chair when I read the advert.

  9. I've a Sierra 4x4 which is currently unemployed...

bloody fine motor, IMHO. Needs a little work - the driver's side sill is a
bit dodgy and might not pass another MOT, and all the dampers could do with
replacing. Apart from that, it's sound.

don't want to sell it, mind. But what I want and what happens aren't always
the same thing, sadly - Just had to spend about 600 quid on replacing the
gearbox in the Land Rover, including hiring a car for a week as we need 2
    vehicles on the road.

I could have sold you a complete Landy (SIII SWB) for 400 - with a brand
new (6000 miles) diesel engine fitted.

  11. Surely worth more than that? My mate just sold the worst Range Rover in
Britain[TM] - 6 cylinder model, the one that goes like a 4 cylinder but
drinks petrol like a V8, seats ripped out, sprayed matt black, covered
in rust, 8 inches of slop on the steering wheel, brakes didn't work -
    for a grand.

Admittedly I was amazed. He left this thing in my drive early this year
and went to Australia, having promised to have it removed, which failed
to happen. I threatened him and asked around - the best offer I got was
someone offering to remove it without charge, and he was drunk at the
time. Luckily for the owner, he came back before I could be arsed to
    carry out my threat.

And then he bought a tidy looking 15 year old BMW 525i with the
proceeds. The deal of the century?

Or are Range Rovers worth much more just because they're Range Rovers? I
always thought Land Rovers were more useful especially when they get
towards the scruffier end of their lives. You don't cut a lot of ice in
Sloane Square in a matt black rust bucket:)

    Regards, Ian

It might be - it needs a bit of chassis work for the MOT though -
outriggers and front spring hangers. I need the space in the barn more
than an extra couple of quid!
I suspect he found a nutter. Happens now and again.
I think so too - old Landy's have a certain style - old Rangies are just
    old money pits.

  13. yebbut, this one's a 110 CSW with V8 and 4-speed auto, and apart from things
wearing out, it's getting relatively close to being what I want.

to be fair, the 'box that's just failed only cost me 100 quid, a year and
    about 20,000 miles ago.

That's not a bad return on the 100 quid then. Shame they are so fecking
heavy to fit... I hope you did the clutch while the bugger was out,
otherwise you know what's going to happen next don't you?

  16. although paradoxically it is indeed a clutch in the gearbox that failed,
resulting in no forward gears, just reverse.

It's got about 6 clutches like motorcycle mutliplate ones in it... in 2
minds yet whether to try and rebuild it with new clutches, or to
subsequently (pending funds) chop it in to the reconditioners as an
    exchange.

  17. I'm sure I don't *want* to sell it. I may *have* to.

how much would you give fer it?

it's a 2.8 injection estate, BTW, and dual fuel LPG; AFAIK all mechanicals
work, except for the ABS, which IIRC needs a front wheel sensor. Doesn't
fail the MOT though, 'cos they only look at the lights, which go out, and
then come on again when you go over about 15 mph. Brakes work fine without
though, so long as you don't assume the ABS will work.

In an ideal world, I'd fix the sill, replace the shocks, and put it back on
the road as a plaything, 'cos it's serious fun. But I can't afford the
insurance, and everything else keeps absorbing money like a damn' sponge.

Hmm, about £450 I imagine. I'll have to hurry people up buying my Golf.

Easy to fix now the box is out and flog it on for the cost of the
    replacement?
I've rebuilt auto-boxen before now. Not tricky - just treat it like
brakes and keep it clean inside.
