Motorcyclist dies on Old San Jose Road

The California Highway Patrol says it appears excessive speed led to the
death of a 30-year-old motorcyclist Sunday on Soquel Old San Jose Road.

Calls came in just before 3:30 p.m. reporting a motorcyclist lost control
of his bike as he approached the town of Soquel and crashed through cut
telephone poles installed around a water storage tank.

The crash came minutes after CHP dispatchers fielded calls from motorists
saying a group of about six motorcyclists were speeding and driving
recklessly. CHP officials said the two incidents seem to be related, as
about five other motorcyclists were with the victim when officers arrived.

Once on the scene, emergency personnel found the downed motorcyclist,
whose name was withheld, still breathing. But by the time he was prepared
for air transport to a trauma center, he stopped breathing and never
regained consciousness, despite efforts to revive him, according to
officials with the state Department of Forestry and Fire Protection and
    American Medical Response.

Sunday’s accident was the county’s ninth traffic fatality this year,
    according to the CHP.

I asked CHP to start something like this here and got the cold shoulder.

I think it would be a good thing.

  3. Well it's not quite the same but we DO have the Doc Wong "Rider Skills
and Safety Day" coming up next Sunday at Alice's, which aims toward the
same goal (plus raising money for the La Honda volunteer fire dept.).
It seems we should've held it earlier in the summer this year!

Tell all your moto-friends about it. If it saves only one life, it
    will have been worth it.

CHP used to be the creme de la creme of police agencies. Now, in the words
of a friend who's a retired CHP officer, they are "AAA with badges" since
their mission has turned from highway safety to revenue collection. I'm
sure it's very frustrating to the majority of the officers who really want
to provide service to the public.

Anything to enhance safety will cost CHP time and money and reduce revenue.
Safer highways also make poor statistics when they are out grabbing more
taxpayer money and asking for more employees in the name of safety. Carnage
    sells!

I understand. I even tried Sunnyvale and had the same result. Not one
    fucking word.
