AIUI he's a bigwig in the DSC, which is what everyone's slagging off
in the first few pages.

 

What he appears to be doing is trying to revive the fortunes of the
DSC, which appears to have fallen into some disrepute with some of the
members and ex-members. Instead of going with this, there's a vocal
minority with axes to grind that have launched some quite distasteful
attacks on a man who I know to be a decent sort. 'Kin morons.
