I abused my CB250RS for 2 years and only managed to blow it up once -
    loved it.

  3. It won't. Could be a knackered cam (sounds similar). Trouble with the RS
is it has skimpy finning and *must* have frequent oil changes. But
camchain noise is always a worry.
Chain & sprocket set £50 max, battery about £20, clutch lever a few quid
for a pattern, choke cable about £15, front tyre maybe £50 including a
    tube.

OK, so we're up to over £350 total cost already and that's assuming
that's all that needs doing and that the camchain noise does magically
    vanish.

    <Sucks teeth>

Starting to look like a non-bargain to me.

The oil looks like new, so someone has changed it recently. I am being
very sensitive about the noise, its no more than the slight clatter that
every GS500 makes until the oil circulates and I only ran it for a few
minutes. Air cooled 4 stokes are always a tad noisy.
Time will tell when I give it a good run. Bear in mind that it has been
stored for 4 years so even clean fuel might help.
If it comes in under 400 total I will be pleased to play with one of
    Honda's better lightweight toys.

  5. That'll be the brand new heavier weight oil that was put in before sale,
to disguise the noise from the buyer, then.
Under £400 is definitely good, if you can keep it to that and if it's
genuinely OK at that price, yes.
