This is currently on the ARA message board:

    "1997 ZX7R Green/Purple, 17K miles, Micron Exhaust, Datatag, Pirelli
Super Corsa's, Recent Oil + Filter Cx, New pads. Many Extras. Very very
tidy bike not the usual rubbish. Alot of bike for £1500 Dyno sheet for
    128BHP @ rear wheel. Receipts + spares."

I always wanted one of these when they new, is this a bike that has
    stood the test of time?

Is whats being asked realistic? Is it worth a punt?

It's something of a modern classic, yes. You'll prolly find it a bit
heavy and slow steering, but it has one of the all time best front
    ends, and is very rewarding.
    I'd say so.

Mind you, do you know anyone at ARA who might be interested in a race
    GSX-R 600 K2?

    It does.

**** - if you'll but it I'll spray the frigging thing. Pick a colour.

Yes. They're heavy, but absolutely sublime, and that one seems to be in
the right colour too. Great intercontinental tourer and the front-end's
    fantastic.

Don't pay too much attention to the dyno chart though - the one I had
came with charts showing 130bhp at the wheel but the fuelling was all
over the shop and when I had it tested it was only making 113.

But, most importantly, if you always wanted one, get one. Then if it
doesn't live up to expectations, punt it out again for the same money.

After many beers Eddie and I decided to buy this off you as a track day
    bike.

It all seemed like a good idea at the time.

Well if Champ takes some of a 6R as a deposit and then lends us the rest
    we're sorted.

But let's face it, the one you had was shit. After all, it was the only
one pulled up in France, and that was because, well, it looked shit.

Have a look. I had a 2000 for 32000 miles ish. Make sure you check the
disks at the front[1]. The OE ones did have a bit of a habit of warping
under heavy braking, which you do a lot due to weight issues. They *are* a
bit lardy as I am sure many will say but the front end is a sweet as a
    lump of sugar.

You have to be stern with it! Treat it like a modern bike and it'll laugh
at you. Throw it into corners like you mean it and it'll be your friend :)

You can adjust the geometry for a swifter turn in by shimming out the rear
shock a bit at the top mounting. Up by 5 - 10mm lift from the tail to the
tyre is more than enough to speed things up without going mad. I think it
was one 1mm thick 16mm washer I used on mine. 20 pence or so from your
    local washer dealers.

Its dead easy to maintain due to its race heritage and all of the bits you
may need to tinker with are easily accessible. Unlike some offerings from
Mr Honda where you have to undo the thingy to loosen the whatsit just so
you can fill the doobry with gloop or coolant or whatever.

Another thing to have a look at is the gearbox. Its a bit agricultural as
standard but as with cornering be stern and it'll be fine. But..... Check
first to second is good and not jumping out or just missing. I suspect
Kawasaki made some of them from chocolate.

All in all if I was in England I'd buy it :)

Re Performance: I <cough> <cough> Have *heard* that they are more than
capable of keeping up with most stuff. At this point I shall hand over to
Mr Bear for his revue covering the Kawasaki demonstration run on the 303.

    Mr Bear over to you...

Presumably have a little more mid-range grunt than my 600, for slightly
    easier riding?

Do you include balancing the carbs in this statement, because the
official Kawasaki line is remove the carbs, plug the vacuum gauge pipes
on, replace carbs, balance carbs, remove carbs, remove vacuum gauge
    pipes, replace carbs.

Having long fingers and a 90 deg angled pair of forceps I found a way
round it that doesn't require the carbs to be removed, but if you went
by the manual every time you'd be there all bloody day.

How much? My housemate is looking for just this sort of thing for the
very nice project bike he's almost completed.

Saying that, its nearly the end of the season, there may be some new
intake to the newcomers class next year that need a bike, cant hurt to
    re-advertise it.

Also, if your thinking of the IOM, manx.net classifies yield good
results, the site is gash, but its free and has a massive amount of
people that use it. There is Manxads.com and Manxforums.com, both also free.

If it was me, Id just keep the thing rather than sell for peanuts - the
next buyer could be round the corner!
