    Been offered a VF500 F2.

Its been sitting in the owners ex-wife's shed for the last year but she has
now taken it down (hint) and he doesnt have anywhere to put it.

Its all there, all original, has only 12500miles and is pretty clean. Mine
for 200quid. It needs a new battery and reg/rec.

Worth it or money pit? Did these get recalled, I vaguely remember the
phrase Honda VF = chocolate cams.

    All comments appreciated.

    Chris

Nice tool. Best of the older VFs I reckon, and quite a hoot to ride. The
chocolate cams were only on the early 750s I think. I have heard of one
wrecking the main bearings but the owner was an *animal*.
Regrec should not cost the earth (M&P?), but have a good look at the
condition of the downpipes, especially the rear ones.

Where abouts are you? I have access to a VF500 in bits, which I'm planning
on building up when I get the space, so you might be able to advise me on
    how bits should look etc?

    TIA

Bargain. Gotta be worth more than that as spares even if it didn't run.

I thought it was going to be an unfaired just-larger-than-a-CB400-kinda-bike
but it looks ok (for an 86 'D bike) so will be wedgeing the bloke asap then
figuring out how to move it the 7 or 8 miles to my garage!

Dynamic I'm in southend-on-sea, essex. Send me an email at karen
DOT christiaan AT btinternet DOT com , I have some pics of the
bike I snipped from the net and will take some off this one when I manage to
get it to my garage sometime [hopefully] over the weekend. Its the
red/white/blue version with black wheels. I was told it would have nasty
inboard disc brakes but this has turned out not to be true <phew!>

At least it will get my attention away from the redecorating*

*another thing bound to please her - just put it on the list with the others

  8. Don't touch.

Actually, for 200 quid, wtf. Just don't spend money on it. If it doesn't
go with a new battery and fresh fuel & plugs, throw it away.

Top ends weren't the problem on the 500: bottom ends were. Two blew up
    on the press launch, ffxake!.

I rode one when they first came out. Lovely power delivery, lovely
noise, and absolutely brilliant handling. A lovely bike to ride, but
they *do* tend to go bang if abused.

I know where there's a blown up one if you need chassis bits.

The VF500 was the nicest of the V-four Hondas of that era. I had a 400
and 2 750s, but always hankered after a 500. The 500 never suffered with
choccy cams, nor did the 400 or 1000, just the 750. One thing I liked
about the 500 was the normal discs, not the god-awful to work on inboard
things my 400 had. I liked the styling too.

If it's complete and running, then 200 quid sounds pretty good. I'd have
bought a decent one for that.

From what I remember, the engine has been rebuilt, so it just needs putting
together. But if I find out soon, I'll get back to you.

    Cheers.
