Little puddles of oil under the engine aren't good, are they?
BMW or Busa? If it's the BMW just keep riding it because apparently they're the most reliable bikes in the world ever. If it's the Busa, get it checked.
Sounds almost as good as the variable-ratio gearbox effect that appeared on the thou today. It's like riding a 160bhp scooter. That'll be a new clutch to go along with the service it's due then.
It's the busa that's incontinent. Home from work early tomorrow to get the fairing off so I can start investigating.
Put a tray or some newspaper under the bike so you won't told off for making a mess - other than that *I* wouldn't worry too much...
No. Big puddles are what you want. If it's coming from the gearlever oil seal, that was an old Suzuki favourite and relatively easily fixed. Anywhere else is prolly not good news.
Cursory glance indicates that it's coming from somewhere around the lower front of the engine. I'm hoping that it's simply my incompetence with the oil and filter change done when I first got the bike and nothing more sinister. As the bike came from a trader, I guess I need to be careful not to do too much when I should be throwing it back at him, but similarly I don't want to cart it a hundred miles or so to discover that I've not tightened the oil filter up enough. Of course, it's very hard to tell if this is a long term problem or something new, as the bike had been cleaned very thoroughly before sale.
Are you still working in London, or anywhere else that involves travelling west from Swindon way towards home? If so, you may want to rethink that plan. The M4's still shut after this morning's carnage, & sounds like it'll stay that way for a while yet.
Carnage? <googles> Oh. Ha. That's quite hilarious. "Vets are at the scene treating injured animals and rescue teams are trying to catch runaway pigs."
Ah, no, back home now. In both senses. I'm in my Champ's Bitch overalls and off out to use the degreaser
Exactly. I don't know what people are worrying about. I get more concerned when I haven't got a puddle of oil under the bike...
Turns out it was a poor seal on the [1] oil filter; the chap from the local independent bike fixing place [2] spent about 1/2 hour in total checking round the leak, diagnosing the dodgy seal, replacing the filter with a Suzuki OEM one I happened to take along with me, cleaning the bike up and checking again for leaks. Then refused to take any money from me for doing so. I'm a happy bunny again [5] [1] non-Suzuki though that should make no difference really as it prolly came from the same factory [2] Motovation in Cheltenham [3] [3] place is littered with Italian exotica [4], plus loads of assorted bikes gettng serviced including a rather tidy Kwak 500 triple [4] as the bloke that runs it is Ducati-trained [5] Though I came very close to becoming an ex happy bunny on the see-if-it-still-leaks-shakedown-trip [6] [6] Busa screens should have an inscription along the lines of "objects in your future are closer than they appear"
Too bloody right To be honest I'd heard of them by word of mouth and thought I'd give them a try as I wanted an independent mechanic to look at the bike in case I had to go back to the chap I bought it from looking for recompense, but having been there now I think I might start chucking the bike at them for other stuff too [1] as they're tucked away so far in an industrial estate you'd never find them unless you were directed to them
I tested your "no overtake is impossible on a Hayabusa" theory, only because in the stupid situation I'd got myself into I ran out of both road and options, and much to my surprise and I suspect to the surprise of the Bentley coming the other way it appears to hold true. So far.
