    Some years ago, I read a short story which I think was called "The Ride", in
    one of the motorcycle mags ??? Memory fails me :)

    In short - Memory fails me again :-(

    It was about a bike rider that stops at a road house (fuel stop) and falls
    for the lady running it ? On making his way back home, finds that it was a
    ghost stop for truckers etc etc???

    There was a poem at the end of the story- see below, that I liked at the
    time and took the trouble to write down...

    If any one knows of the short story, has a copy etc can they please let me
    know. TIA

    The RIDE

    Like Fantasies in endless flight;

    like skyborn dreams that cross the night,

    drifting past the conscious stream

    Eyes-edge glimpsed like rainbows gleam.

    Out among the moon's dead light,

    under that pale, cold stare;

    through rainclouds, black powerful,

    on ribbon road that runs nowhere.

    Where shadows bind the darker earth

    and spotlight gives one's path a birth,

    a senseless rush of speed and air.

    Cold. Wet and timeless, with out care.

    Tying to unroll the world,

    to find horizons curve unfurled.

    Occam's razor and death's one door

    Closely felt, frees mind to soar.

    Searching for a place that's true,

    travellin' fast to rush on through.

    Throttle wide with time at bay

    passin' through a night's long day.

    Thinking of the unreal all just past,

    wonder at the mind, the feel;

    wonder whether it'll last.

    Solitude inside the soul,

    captures thoughts in windrush troll.

    Wonder at the knowing, the warmth and touch.

    One night's awareness can be so much.

    Gone and lost and never seen,

    glimpsed amid echoes of The Ride,

    folded into mists of a pain.

    Hoping it was no one night stand,

    and such a dream will come again.
