Shocking

  1. Hah! Made you look.

Actually I have a question about motorcycle shocks.

My '99 Tiger rear shock has apparently given up the ghost. It has gone
all soft and just sitting on the side stand the bike is so vertical that
a stiff breeze would probably cause it to topple to the right. I spoke
with Mike the mechanic at Lone Star BMW/Triumph here in Austin and he
said that the preload adjuster must have leaked its lifeblood or more
    properly its lifegas.

Anyway, the shock is not reparable, at least not by me or Lone Star.
And the whole unit is shockingly expensive; $900 from Triumph and about
$700 from Works. Nobody else makes a replacement part that I've found.

Except since I started having problems with it I've never used the
preload adjuster so I could theoretically go with a non-adjustable
coilover shock. I figure I could easily get a replacement from another
application for much less money if I only knew what to look for. I have
no concerns about warranty as the bike is long past that.

So to all you techies out there what are my options? How do I go about
picking a shock that will suit my needs? What would be the recommended
shock? Koni? Any advice will be appreciated.

    Thanks.

Look at Works Performance (WP). Unless you have a "street legal
superbike" (which have pretty top-notch gear already), you might as well
    go aftermarket.
