Shifts gear when resting foot on shifter? HELP

    I got a 1994 CBR 600 F2. It's only got 5000 miles on it. Yes 5000 only.
Anyway today a problem I think starting. I always ride my bike with my foot
resting under or over the shifter to get ready for potentially the next
shift. Well today while leaning left I felt a jolt. Well it ends up my bike
was trying to shift up. Of course I didn't have the shift lever pulled in
and was at full throttle so it caused this. I kept riding the rest of the
day and confirmed this happened because the bike was trying to shift because
my foot was barely applying pressure on the shifter. This never happens on
right leans because my foot isn't putting pressure on the shifter. So now
I'm curious what is causing this. Any ideas? Thanks.

Sorry to go off topic Grendel, but are you a Marillion fan by any
    chance?

    Just wondering.

So is this just normal wear after awhile. I ALWAYS have rested the toe of my
boot underneath the lever when I'm in 2nd to get ready for 3rd. Now all of a
sudden it seems that I'm applying enough pressure to make it go to 3rd. IS
this normal after a little wear? I'mm only at 5000 miles.

I had to ask because Marillion recorded a song titled Grendel.

Earlier somebody emplied that you can change gears without the clutch.
    Isn't this bad?

no you can do that if you time is when there os no tourque on the motor (off
throttle). howver i want to shift with the clutch. isn,t something wrong
because i can shift from 1 2 and 3 with no clutch when the bike is turned
    off at least?

You should not be putting any pressure on the shifter till you're ready to
shift. Are you wearing big toed boots ?

I think he was making a joke about calling it an "old morse folk tale"
instead of an "old Norse folk tale"...

I'll take you're word for it Timberwoof! I've never listened to the
song, even though I've been to England twice to see the band. They
absolutely refuse to play the song live by the way. That song was
written by their old singer...the new guy is much better!

    Thanks,

I should have known that a strange name like Grendel would be based on
    SOMETHING! Now I know :)

That, or the "m" and "n" keys on the keyboard are right next to each
other, and he hit the wrong one? Shit happens?

Jesus. The mind sometimes boggles at the truly daft things people ask
    here sometimes.

"I keep pressure on the gear lever, so why does it change gear?"

Thanks. I'm gonna take it into the Honda shop this weekend hopefully anyway.
I'll have them check it out and give their opinion on if it's normal or
because I have ALWAYS kept my foot underneath above or below the shifter in
preparation for the next shift. I never thought this was something I wasn't
supposed to do. I guess I'm ignorant of this obviously because there was no
warning about not doing it that I ever read.

No, no, no, no, I'm not offended! I'm just poking fun.

I'm not going to get into the history of the English language and how
it's related to all the other Germanic languages, or how all of those
people shared lots of common stories and culture. No, I'm just going to
point out that folk tales from Norway and such are called Norse and the
guy who invented dots and dashes was called Morse.

Oh, yes, and I will point out that Odin implores us to be good spellers.
It's in the story about how he hung upside down from a tree for nine
    days.

Woah, chill out. Don't crank up your reaction-sensitivity so high ...
and don't talk about how angry you're getting while at the same time
claiming to be a fun-loving person.

Clear your mind and have a nice ride today.

  20. If you need another reason to keep your foot away from the shifter (most
especially from underneath it) when you're not going to be shifting gears
anytime soon - imagine leaning far left on a corner and your boot/shoe
getting grabbed by the ground because it's now the lowest point. Imagine
the pain as your foot twists underneath the footpeg, completely rendering
your ankle useless, and the searing pain causing you to freak out and
completely trash the whole bike, probably breaking several other bones in
    the process......

    Y'all have a nice day now! :)
