or the levels of car tax and VED. WTF is happening in happy old Holland

    www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-11647189

"The traditional Dutch tolerance of the sale of small amounts of marijuana
through licensed "coffee shops" is under severe strain"

    Sad. Very sad indeed.

    A qoute from the link

"Just a few miles from the border with Belgium, by 2007 it (Roosendaal) had
become a centre for drug tourists with 12,000 arriving every week. This in
an area with a population of just 10,000."

    There's yer problem, right there.

Just as they're about to legalise it in California, maybe.

I don't know whether to blame the EU or the Sceptics for the pressure to
    change

Recent polls say it's going to fail, after so many months of probable
success. We'll see tomorrow. But it's almost a moot point. It's
relatively easy to get a doctor's prescription, after which you can
buy it over the counter. Without a script, possession of less than an
ounce is only an infraction, like a minor traffic ticket.

Well, for the owners of the 5 or 6 coffee shops probably no problem at all
but the other 9994 inhabitants probably aren't too keen. They have a point
IMO, can't say as I'd be too pleased to have 12000 French and Belgian
nutters descending on my town every week.
As so often, the BBC has got the wrong end of the stick here, its only a few
places close to the German and Belgian borders where there are problems and
this membership card scheme would probably sort that out. As for the rest,
there has just been an election and its always the same, desperate
politicians trying to grab a few middleclass votes, it usually peters out
    after about 6 months.

A business minded society would have seen it as an opportunity, not
    something to stamp out!

Well, fortunately, most of the people living around those parts realise that
there is more to life than just business and the ones that don't pissed off
    to America years ago.
Wouldn't fancy living in a "business minded society" myself.

no, but a question mark is more traditional at the end of a question
    than an exclamation mark.

(I already mentioned it's Hypocrisy Week here).
