Shagged chain

I thought it was near the end of its life. I'd already tightened it up
before the run and it's already flapping around worse than a flappy
    thing.

I'd popped to my local kawa dealer to get his opinion and when he came
out with the words "fucking hell!", it did make my arse flutter a bit.
Mind you, he looked up at me, grinned and said (in French this time)
"I learnt that on a documentary a couple of days ago".

Apparently I need to be careful for the next few days until I get the
chain changed. Any recommendations on a new chain and sprocket set,
apart from the usual kawa brand?

I'm also off to the scottoiler site sometime today :)

IMO, the Kawa brand is normally ok, I have run he XJR on that for a long /
time. My man that does had a stock and they beat the shit out of others.
    Smart move.

DID brand, type ZVM (extra HD X-ring). These are pretty much the best chains
    you can buy. Ask Lozzo.
Good idea. Combined with the above chain, I got 44k miles out of the last
    one on my old FJ1100.

DID. Renold and Regina also used to be decent brands, but I dunno if
    they still exist.

Cheap chains are more trouble than they're worth, unless you're just
putting one on a bike you're planning to sell.

I've always gone for RK chains, and have no complaints.

Absolutely. My Kawa chain lasted twice the length of time (and miles) as the
chain of a mate's SV 650. Same with the sprockets. I'll be using OEM next
time around, not an aftermarket set.

Both Kawasaki and Suzuki use the same grade of DID chain as OE.
Standard fit is VM grade, which is one down from the top quality ZVM,
or the later equivalent for pretty much any bike over 250cc

You or I can buy exactly the same chain over the counter as an
aftermarket part and save a fortune. There is no such thing as Kawasaki
chain or Suzuki chain, in the same way that there's no Yamaha tyres or
    Honda tyres.

    they churn out)

Yup I think if you use DID ZVM chain you can move on and worry about
    something else.
