On a trip back from the bush yesterday was chatting to and old
bloke at a roadhouse and he mentioned that he had a 7-9 in the old
days... I think he said it was a Harley Davidson???

After a quick Google i didn't find anything so will ask the
knowledge bank in here.... Just curious to see what the bike
    looks like...

    Thanks for any info.

Running back through the conversation, we were talking
about horsepower at the time. The poor old bloke almost
fell over when i mentioned the claimed 160 hp that the
ZZR12 has and that was when he mentioned the 7-9....
Not sure if he was referring to his bikes hp or it's name????

  4. Old horsepower rating invented by the Poms to make sure that the world
was given cars with tiny bores and long strokes, as the bore was the
basis for taxation rates on cars. The same was applied to motorcycles,
so Australia and New Zealand in the '20s and '30s referred to bikes
not by engine capacity but horsepower rating. Thus a Harley Davidson
    7/9 was actually a 750cc sidevalve (a J-model I think), producing
probably no more than 25bhp, while the 10/12 was a 1200cc producing
around 35bhp. Loads of torque though... Indian used the same HP
descriptions, as did British makers. Cubic centimetres were more
    common by the '50s.

    unfortunate result was...

    Nah

What this bloke was saying was he had a "Seventy Nine" Harley

Back in the old days - probably around '81

Thanks BBM. It is the best answer that i've had yet so i'm
got going to argue with you... The bloke was, at a guess,
in his mid seventies so a 20's to 30's model bike would not
have been out of the question..

Woohoo, i gotta get me one of these,,,, not!!!

They were probably a great bike, in their time.

    Thanks again.
