Agreed. They would have sold a lot more 750 Zephyrs if they'd done them
that way right from the start.

I noticed he was flogging that. Trouble is, IMHO the best-looking Z650s
are the really early ones, in either red (like mine) or green.

And the US-spec seat on his just looks... well, wrong. It completely
spoils that flowing line you get from tank to tailpiece.

    Still a nice bike, thobut.

I've ridden a 750 Zephyr to the South of France and back. I really rate
it as a naked retro: it's smoother than a Z650 because of the rubber
mounted engine, and it goes well enough. Undergeared in stock trim, but
another tooth on the gearbox sprocket sorts that (and improves the
    economy).

Handled well, too. Stopped well. Imagine all the imporvements people
made to stock Z650s, all in one package.

And it's nicely styled. It's just a shame the early ones had that
dreadful Zephyr badge on the tank. And once they'd sorted that, they
still didn't paint it in a decent colour until that last Z1-stylee
    model.

If they'd given it spoked wheels and a Z650 red or green colour scheme
right from the start, I'm convinced they'd have sold many more.

Thanks for picking up the exhaust, too. My next task is to sort out
some new head races and decent shocks.

  5. I wouldn't disagree with that POV, actually. Every decent-sized Kwack
four I've ever ridden has been so, well, so driveable in top.

Nice ... I already saw it and put a couple of bids in yesterday, bit early
    but wtf.

    Yup, green was best.
The seat (and U.S. spec bars it looks like) could be changed ... I'd guess
quite expensive for a decent one though.
I wish I'd seen/read this yesterday, I might not have bothered bidding 'cos
I can't quite afford that much. We might have a bid again, closer to the
end as the high bidder ATM hasn't the best feedback, so one never knows ...
    ;)

Always worth a try. I'd have said £1500 was a fairish price. I paid
£1100 for mine, and you can add £300 for the exhaust I've just
bought. Mine's nice and clean, too.

    I know ... ;)

We reckon we can only go to about £1250 total, but we might just try it, but
if the reserve really is 1/2 again what you paid I'd guess we're not going
to have much of a chance at all.

  10. depending on the seller you can sometimes do a deal if you're the high
bidder but it didn't make reserve. I got the landy that way, split the
difference twixt my bid and the (optimistic) reserve.

So, come on then TOG, what's it gonna go for.

    Currently at £1,320.00.

If I had £1,600.00 spare, that'd be my final bid.

    Lovely bike mind

  15. If it was mine, I'd set the reserve round about £1700.

Ah well ... as these things happen I bid and was winning but had to
withdraw. I think I'd have won it, as no-one else bid more but the
Landrover needs a new head, a new radiator and a new shit-load of other
stuff, or so it seems, so we can't afford the bike at this time.
