Probably not, a tunnel is defined by the Sectional Appendix [1]. We have
tunnels made of concrete that are only a few yards long and bridges you
can't see the light at the end of...

How the distinction is defined no-one seems to know but to find out how
many is fairly simple to do. It would be easy to get all the regional
copies and count the number of times the word tunnel appears.

[1] Simply, a railway 'road' atlas with localised working instructions.

Made of concrete, or concrete lined?

Concrete slabs. To a normal human being they are bridges.

The one I was thinking of, though, has brick facings.

I saw the TV interview yesterday.

The bloke looked quite sheepish about it.

    The baboon died, anyway.

I was shocked, yes. I'd assumed that there would be some electronic
mapping of some sort in place.

I was also surprised that Railtrack then argued with the results

"27% of the brunel express way can't be in cuttings and tunnnels"
    "why do you think that?"
    "er... it seems to much..."

And particularly surprised by their inability to provide me with grid
    references for key properties...

"Do you know that about 10% of your lineside sights are in the sea?"

I guess, I've never worked for the public sector so can't really
    comment.

Anyway... weren't Railtrack *meant* to be private sector???

You`d be amazed at how many of them do that - suicides tend to have

This one looked grumpy, I have had experience of the smiling type though.

Maybe worth mentioning, there's nothing funnier than a comedy coroners
clerk, except perhaps [1] a comedy pathologist.

    [1] No, that's a definite.

Anatomists, definitely anatomists. One of my acquaintance brought a
new (engineering) student up to see the stiffs she'd be working on for
her project on hip implants. He whipped the cover off one of them,
revealing a man who was indeed stiff.

`Would you get up on that?'
