Do they still exist? We have a Honda Shadow Aero and a 650 Vstrom 650,
and neither of these bikes have it, but my 1979 Yamaha XS750. It
really bothers me when a rider has a left flasher on and turns right
or tools down the highway for miles with a Blinker on.

My Drifter had them, also my GL1200. Those are probably the most modern
    bikes I've owned.

Try failing your 1st DAS test for leaving a turn signal on.

Fair concentrates the mind to not be absent minded cancelling them
    after a turn, even now.

My 1993 BMW has 'em. So do more modern BMWs. I never could work out
why Yamaha dropped the idea, as theirs were about the best going. They
got the time/distance equation absolutely right, IMHO.

Indeed. When I notice that I've done it, I take it as a signal that my
riding is not up to standard, and I need to pay more attention / up
    concentration.

Not necessarily, I personally tend to forget to cancel mostly when I'm
negotiating a difficult turn or the situation is more complex and therefore
my attention is diverted to more important, non-automated things.
    My solutions are to
    a) cancel as quickly as possible after having indicated properly, so the
whole thing is a one-thought process and
    b) because of forgetting repeatedly right after I got the license, grow a
habit of pressing the cancelling button whenever I happen to think of it,
just in case I forgot earlier.

I'm a Canadian in British Columbia, and enjoy reading this group.
I also wondered whether cancelling flashers maybe existed in Europe
but not North America or vice versa.

I sometimes ride with other people who occassionally forget their
findicators, and it just worries me, especially at interesections.

I also thumb the button every so often to make sure the flashers are
off, just like I often check the hand brake lever in my cage.

I did. I still have memories of the instructor's voice in my right
ear, which latterly became a subtle hinting cough. I'd appreciate
that in the case of a fully-faired bike with a crowded dashboard (one
of them that goes up to 240mph and has to make room for all the
figures, or has to provide enough space for all the little crystals in
the digital display to breathe) the 'indicator - on' indicating light
may be difficult to discern - and due to its nature, of an
    intermittent character.

I'm seeing in my mind's eye the dash of a turn-of-the-century (hah)
R1, where all the idiot lights are small LEDs recessed into a plastic
honeycomb. Almost impossible to see the neutral light, let alone the
feeble flashing of the indicator light.

Anyway, in that case my method won't work, but on ald-fashioned bikes
with proper dashboards and properly prominent idiot lights, the 'IAM
method' works well. You scan, you see. In traffic, in town,
hammering down the twisties, you scan. Horizon, vanishing point,
mirror, dash, road in front. Horizon, presence of blue lights,
mirror, road, dash, road, horizon, road - that sort of thing.

All very Tai Chi, and not a little Feng Shui, but it works for me.
It's all part of dropping into the groove and happens without thinking
about it. You prolly do it too, but don't realise it. It prevents
target fixation and leads to very interesting views of those behind,
for example, when the eyes flick involuntarily to the inside mirror
when in mid-corner (when the guy you've just passed comes up on you A
Bit Quick on braking, then disappears from Mirror One (inside), to
reappear in Mirror Two (outside) and thence to Verge Two (outside) -
you know he's learned a lesson) and it provides regular input of all
that's going on and might affect you.

I think the gixxer had one of these - ISTR a button on the dash to do
summat with it. TBH I could never see the point of it - the only time
you'd ever want to use it would be on a drag strip, and surely you'd
just be bouncing of the rev limiter anyway, wouldn't you?
