And Autosport-Atlas wrote yesterday that he initially ran laptimes of 2m40s which he was able to bring down to a best of just 2m06 - "Under the supervision of [Livio] Suppo and former rider Randy Mamola, the seven-time champion completed a total of 42 laps with a best of 2:05.98".

Yamaha rider Rossi took pole at this year's Italian Grand Prix with a time of 1min 49.223secs. "It was great fun," said Schumacher, who is thought to have only ridden road bikes before. "I wanted to experience something totally different and it was very interesting. The guys at Ducati helped me a lot and (former 500cc GP winner) Randy Mamola explained everything to me.
