Seems a tad harsh to me ...

I think that any figures available would show that the British justice
system compares very favourably with the rest of the World.

I'm in complete agreement, surprisingly. Discussions of British Justice,
Society, Empire etc are invariably disparaging but this is RL and not an
academic discussion FFS and in perspective it doesn't get a lot better,
    anywhere AFAIK.

Have I had the rough end of it, well yes, but OTOH I've screwed it or
avoided it much more so WTF.

The UK legal framework could do with a major shakedown and cleanup but it is
the political/democratic system which is a bit broken, not The Law.

A few years ago, just after the first LoTR movie came out, I was on a
ski lift with a teen-age girl who was telling a friend about all the
Middle-Earth related books she'd read. I asked if she knew Bored of the
Rings, and it turned out she did, so I suspect it may have got a new
    lease of life.

In fact ... <looks> ... yes, it seems it's still in print.

Compared with the number of people given custodial sentences over the
same time frame, I'd put those miscarriages of justice in the "very,
    very rare" pot.

Oh yes I forgot to mention that, it is indeed. Free too. As was the room
    phone. Another significant difference.

That would make for an interesting case... make the prosecution prove
that the jury are all careful and competent drivers first.

They reprinted it about the same time as the FoTR came out - I have a
    copy I bought somewhere.

Any miscarriages of justice among that little lot?
Talking of spectacular **** ups, I'm surprised you didn't mention among
others, the Guildford 4 or the Birmingham 6.
    Well jolly good for you.

    <looks around>

What in amongst this motley collection of Saddo Bastardii?

In any case, it was a lot better than the post-modern equivalent, Barry
Trotter And The Shameless Parody et seq.

Nowhere near as 'good' as Star Wreck, mind - featuring Captain Quirk,
    Mister Speck and Spotty.

Sure, but it's far from perfect, I'd sooner face a court here than in
some third world country in the middle east or even septicmia.
