So I just moved to melbourne and am trying to get an apartment in the
city itself, probably around collins & swanston.

Do any of the local parking lots have long-term / monthly rates for
motorcycles? I'd be walking to work each day so would only need the
bike for the occasional runabout, maybe once or twice a week. 24-hour
access would be ideal, though I can cope with planning ahead if need
be, and a quick tram ride to pick up the bike each time i wanted to use
it would also be okay if required.

What's the best way to deal with this short of paying for a $50/week
    car parking spot?

I had a customer in Crows Nest in syd with a HSV Senator and of course
    didn't want to park
it on the street when he was at the business

found an old granny living nearby with a lockup garage which he rented for
    $25

he was happy with bargain secure parking
granny was happy with some bingo money

other options would be one of those self storage places

  3. I had a mate over from Perth last year on short term contract working
and living in the CBD. He latched onto some free parking for his
Ducati 900SS in one of the car park buildings.

I'll get hold of him and get back to you.

    Kind regards

  5. Here's his answer.

me: Where did you park the Duke last year when you worked/lived in
    Melb's CBD?

Bruce: At Wilsons car park underneath the "new" hotel building on
Swanston St (accessible by vehicle from Fllinders Lane)

    me: wasn't it free?

Bruce: No - $1 a time. Was supposed to be $1 a day but each time I
went in and out was a $1. I think that was normal for Wilsons. There
was also a special parking bay downstairs for the bikes with a 2’ rail
bolted to the floor which I used to padlock the bike to with a chain
(as well as the wheel lock). Was fun riding down there but concrete
can be slippery. Duke noise used to set off a few car
    alarms.....hohoho!

    HTH

    Kind regards

Make sure your building has an elevator, and keep the bike in your
    loungeroom.
