....in 4 months of riding. Personal FBOTY.

07:10am, Orpington bound from Croydon. Turning right on the Coney Hall
roundabout at West Wickham, the front end went. Bike down, self
sprawling. I looked for the ice, but could only find a large quantity
of salt, much of which was adhering to person. Got up, did best to
ignore cars trying to drive past, turned off ignition, picked up bike
and wheeled it off from the roundabout.

At kerbside, decided to change round to the nearside to put the bike
on the stand to check for damage. Whilst going round the back, lost
balance and fell over. Bike followed, pinning ankle to ground. Much
waving of arms and shouts of "F****** Hell!", which only served to add
    to amusement of observing cages.

Finally levered bike off leg, found that apart from a hole in one bar
muff, a scrape to the exhaust, and a rather rakish angle to the
handlebars, there was no significant damage. Proceeded onwards more
    sedately, Olympus somewhat distant.

Aye, you're right. Perhaps I'll just thrash the GS500 tomorrow eh?

I used to take that route to work. A colleague of mine was killed riding his
bike down that stretch of the "mad mile", so I avoid it whenever possible
now. You should have turned left at the previous roundabout and up corkscrew
hill, luvverley corners they are :)
Where abouts do you work in Orpington? Not the nick I hope!

AJ dropped the ZRX[1] at 0mph in his work car park yesterday. Way to
make an impression on your new employers, dearest ))

[1]Bent the brake lever so we have to get a new one this week.

I certainly was. Rather better this am, thanks for your concern. ;-)

    Personally, I'd far rather take a low-speed dignity loss than a high-speed
    spectacular.

Indeed. How churlish of me not to thank them.

What is the conventional UKRM way of conveying gratitude for not leaving
    tyre-marks in one's back?

Indeed. :) Perhaps best enjoyed with a bit less ice.
In an office off the High Street. Not the nick.

I've recently got a second bin from the council in which to put compost
materials. Perhaps this may be a safer use for your bike.

  12. My last bin (on the Blade at 30mph) was on a patch of
salt crystals. Nasty stuff that forms into a surface with lots
    of tiny ball-bearings :-(

If you'd just bought the bike, you could have blamed it on the seller.
