Seat units

  1. At the Pixiefest, I noticed at least one bike (DNC's Bandit) that had an
    aftermarket seat unit.

I've just got round to looking at www.streetfighterdirect.com and have
seen a few seats that might look good on the Ratblade.

    http://www.streetfighterdirect.com/acatalog/c687__Mini_916_.html look
good IMO and even (horror of horrors) the XLCR Harley ones.

Now, I realise these are aftermarket jobbies and they can be
hacked/fashioned to fit, but when they talk about "internal
measurements" (stop sniggering at the back) on the "will it fit" page,
what the buggery bollocks are they talking about, the width of the
    subframe from inside to inside?

No, they're talking about the internal dimensions of their unit, therefore the
    outside dimensions of your subframe.

Looks fucking gash to me BTW (incase you hadn't guessed). A nice (horrible)
one-off welded out of sheetmetal would be my preference. Don't you know a
    helpful pixie?

Oh for goodness sake, £260 for a basic fiberglass moulding! don't even think
about it. Talk to ARD, they do complete fairings for that sort of money.

There's quite a bit of it still hanging around ...

No - there's some stuff similar to plastigauge (but thicker) that you
have to sit on naked, then send them the width it squashes out to.
If it doesn't squash out at all, the seat doesn't matter.

  6. Yes, actually I do but I don't know if it's too soon since the last
molishment. FWIW, he was right about it needing a bit more cut off; I
said let's leave it and see but a quick look today revealed the ginger
    pixie was right.

The pictures are just an idea of the style, whatever you think of the
colour and materials, that's the kind of sweep up seat arrangement I
    imagined.

Anyway, there is just too much arse still sticking out and whatever I
do, the rear subframe is always going to look too long.

Unless I keep the seat that's on it and paint it black.

  7. Sort of, but I like the way the rear wheel comes out further than the
    back of the bike.

Oh, and Unatech was where I looked. I'll avoid now thanks to Hog's link
    and your experiences.
    Mmmm, brackets for search lights...

What's wrong with hacking the current one down to size?

An old pair of leather troos could be hacked up as well to recover the
    unit as well.

My experiences with Unatec were completely different. Mac was
extremely helpful, giving lots of his time on the phone for free. He
then sent me a load of odds and sods f-o-c. I can't speak highly
    enough of the company.

  10. Actually, they did offer me a discount on some stuff after I pointed out
a (minor) bug on their website.

It's good for a bit of inspiration, but as has been pointed out already,
I'm not sure I could justify the cost for what is essentially a twenty
    five quid bit of fibreglass.

Having said that, though, it would solve the problem of having somewhere
to put the rear lights. I wanted them underneath and that style of unit
    is just the ticket.
