Normaly the cover would be stitched into the different shapes of the foam.
Foam can shaped with a electric knife initialy, then sanded smooth with sand
paper so that it is smooth.
The foam can be sourced from you local motor trimmer, it is normaly heavey
density stuff then covered with softer foam.
The motor trimmer would be able to advice how beas to use the leather.

  2. Aye Aye Captain,
I had a go at altering the seat on the 1996 Bandit 1200 at the time, and
noted that the surface of the foam appeared to be vulcanised. This appears
to stop the foam from crumbling apart from the tugging between the covering
and the foam. I opened it up a second time to have another go at it, and
their wasn't too much dust, but I was not happy with the splits that had
opened up at the sides, where it flex's the most.
It would pay to get the right upholstery staples and stapler. I borrowed a
stapler gun from my work and the 12 mm staples were literally a pain in the
arse (please excuse the foul language, as this NG maintains, and expects a
very high standard of the Queens English).
It was no fun snipping staples in half with side cutters all the time.
If there was a next time, I would go to somebody like John Moorhouse in
    Brisbane and pay for it.

  3. yes get a good 'motor trimmer' or upholsterer to do it
if you want it the same shape then DO NOT RESHAPE THE FOAM...lol
at most put a thin soft foam over the top
if you have a good trim shop they will be able to copy / produce to your
    design anything you want
i dont think john moorehouse is the only one who can do this, but it is his
specialty and you cant beat experience

  4. I have managed to get a nice bit of Gosh leather so I was considering
re-covering and re-foaming the seat on the CBR.

Has anyone got any tips on what is the best foam to use and how to shape it
the same as the old one?

Also how do they cover the seat (its a single piece rider/pillion seat) with
its curved shape without getting creases?

    Thanks in Advance.
