Seat re-covering...

Discussion in 'Classic Motorbikes' started by William Grainger, May 21, 2004.

  1. Can anyone recommend a seat re-covering place? In East Anglia/Camb/Beds
way if poss. Do such places do a "ride in-ride out" service?

  2. In Birmingham - R K Leighton is the best I know. A week's turnaround
    time, though, and not local.

But a seat cover and DIY? I've done many seats. It's an easy job.

Baldasari in Bedford is very good but pricey, and there was a guy in Baldock
near a supermarket (OK it is vague!) who used to do pattern covers for £25 a
few years ago, I think his name was Pounder or something, he did a saddle
stitched leather cover with copper rivets for my Matchless that looked
amazing, but it turned out it should have been rubber (Duh!)

Yup, moulded rubber, it is a 1925 model, and thinking about it I guess
rubber would be cheaper, more durable, waterproof etc.

I am still to find a rubber seat and seatpan

Veadki in Stonehouse, very near Stroud: they do seats (and some bases)
for both current and vintage, and are the contractors for many of the
    others, including some big names.

Did a beautiful job on the RR80's seat, and I'm saving up to get the
GT250's completely rebuilt - new base and cover.

I know they're the other side from you, but I'd happily deal with them
by mail order if I had to.

    Regards,

    Simonm.

    Well, yes, but...

Adie, I don't know how to break this to you, but it's not usual to
require fourteen personal "fittings" for a saddle cover...

You're saying all the rest of the bike, the bit that took 6 months to
do, is worse than the bit that took me 20 minutes to sort.

    I'm gutted.
