Screwing Up While Cleaning

After all the great information about cleaning I went about doing the
simple green thing, the WD40 thing and toothbrushes galore, acid brush
    (works great), rags and water.

Being perfect (ya, right)before starting I carefully remove the
windshield and put it where it couldn't, no matter what I did, get
damaged. Putting it back on......a scratch running from left edge to
right. I was ready to set fire to the bike right in my driveway.

Now I need help on removing the scratch. I tried running my fingernail
over it but couldn't feel any depth to it, more like peeling a layer of
    paint from a surface.

Is there a preferred product to remove these types of scratches?

    Thanks

    Jack

  2. I use the fine cleaning, polishing and scratch removal products from
Meguiar's on my windshields. They, along with some good old elbow
    grease, will fix your error!

  3. first try, I'd use Meguairs Clear Plastic Window Cleaner followed by the
    Clear Plastic Window Polish.

if that fails, I'd tackle it with some fine rubbing compound, then repeat
the Cleaner -> Polish. Follow the instructions on the containers.

Use Novus #2 to remove the scratch... Also works well for scratched CDs.

I agree on Meguiar's 2-part Clear Plastic Cleaner. This is an excellent
product. While discount auto stores like Kragen's may not carry this pricey
line, check your better independent auto shops. Over in the far East Bay
(Tri-Valley), Monument Auto Parts, a local chain, carries Meguiar's. Last
time I bought the product, it was about about $25 for the two.
