  6. Well _obviously!_ If they had any self-esteem they'd be riding a _real_
    bike!

    Nev,

It is only my opinion, yes, but if you're asking me to believe the
premiums are the way they are because of safety, I don't trust the
gubment that they got it right.
Ask yourself this, Nev: Would jumping onto a vehicle less powerful
than most cars which you interact with, make you more of a risk or
less of a risk? Would you feel safe in towns frequented by hot hatches
and mad courier drivers? Have you ridden a scooter? I fucken doubt
it, and from what I've read, Nev, your posts are no more than the vile
ramblings of a shell of a man, and since it's harsh week, **** off nev!

I'm entitled to my opinion, and admit that it's not always right, but
    so be it.

Just because it's a government agency does not mean the premiums are set
by the government. Are you suggesting that maybe there is some sort of
government conspiracy to encourage people to reduce the amount of tax
they pay by riding 50cc scooters and pay 1/7 the premium they would on a
larger capacity bike or in a car..?
Most motorcycles are less powerful than most cars. If the lack of power
produced by vulnerable vehicles increases the risk, why is the annual
road toll for motorcyclists 10 times that of bicyclists? The number of
potential collisions a bicyclists would incur per kilometre would be
hundreds of times that of a scooter in traffic.
No way. i'm too scared to ride one.. they're death traps.
So I suggested you might be wrong, and you admit you might be wrong, why
are you having such a big sook?

I'm sure that like all insurance companies the exact formulae they use
are confidential, however I'd be interested if you think that this
insurance company would differ from every other insurance company and
choose some factor other than risk as the main basis of their premium
calculations, and if that is the case, even more surprised that they
reflect the structure of premiums of third party insurers in competitive
    markets.

Actually their main basis is profit, risk is just an important input
into the profit calculation, hence yes there could be a low risk and a
high premium (if they're a monopoly or some other reason they think they
    can get away with it)

    And there's also assumptions.

The assumption in NSW is that a car is "normal" and everything else is
compared to it. I'm not fully up on the calculations, but it ends up
that motorcycles pay more than they need to and cars pay less. Not
because of risk, but because of the assumptions that went into the
models. THe numbers show that payouts to bikes are quite a bit less
    than premiums collected.

TAC is going to have different numbers, but don't discount assumptions
in the model - they will make them, are they sensible?

    Licensing in WA
Scooter up to 75cc Licence $28, TPI $19.35
Bike up to 250 Licence $28, TPI $165.75
    Bike over 250cc Licence $42 TPI $165.75

The TPI is very low on the scooters, probably because few can carry a
    passenger.

chasing big bikes along the freeway ;) They're so used to seeing fifty cc's
getting about they assume all sports scooters are slow. It's funny how they
have to try and outrun the dragster.....100, 110, 120, 130.....
