    Hello,

I was considering getting one instead of using my car for daily use,
petrol, parking. The Aprilia's look good.

I was wondering how fast can scooters go (legally and illegally)? 100km?

Would a new pipes, kevlar belt etc, improve things.. ?

Depends on the scooter - anything from flatout at 45Km/hr down hill with
a tail wind for a clapped out 10 year old 50cc, to sustained 160K two up
with luggage for a Burgmann 650.

A 50cc is pretty much "around town only" - usually top out at about
60-70K, add more cc's and you have more capability (at the expense of
    more juice consumed)
Yes you can make them faster, at the expense of more juice consumed,
modifying will also reduce resaleability and probably affect your
insurance. If you need to sustain 80-100K then get a larger capacity
(125 or bigger), if you're only toddling a couple of K in city traffic
then a 50 should be fine.

Dave R6 (more than capable of half decent speeds)

I don't know what the rego costs are in WA but in Victoria they vary
greatly between different capacity bikes ($63 - $455) and scooters so if
you're trying to save money (hardly seems like it if you're already
talking about spending money on go-fast bits) then registration cost
    should be a consideration too.

70K as I understand it (not ridden the ditech only it's predecessor so
take with appropriate amounts of salt)

    Good choice

Er, legally they go as fast as a car...
    It wouldn't improve your wallet.

If you want to try it out without spending too much first, I suggesting a
Postie. For about $1000 you can get a good one and they do 80km/h. If it
ain't as much fun as you would like, and they are heaps of fun, upgrade it.
I sold mine 12 months on for what I paid for it. You won't find a better
    deal than that :)

Meh. I sold my R6 for more than I paid for it after dropping it,
doubling its mileage and countless track days.

In WA there are roads in the metro area that are greater then the 60km
which is what i thought the top speed was, eg 80kms west coast hwy,
maybe 90km (reid hwy?). It would have to do somewhere around that speed
    at least for cruzing.
I was going to hire a scooter.

    Thanks

    Raar! Nev!

I think 50cc is something crazy like $35.00 or something. I haven't swapped
any of my scooters/bike/car regos over yet but I did see the prices and
they're about half the price of Vic.

You don't need a car licence to ride a 50cc here either. So I do see a few
about - mostly crappy ones that people buy for cheap and cheerful transport.
Larger than 50cc I think is about $160? I'll have to check that one again
as the Dragster falls into that category.

Depends on what capacity motor, and that depends on how far you're
travelling and where. For CBD and inner suburbs (ie 60/70/80k zones) then
an Aprilia SR50 would go well (after deristricting it) and would be cheap to
register. Also check out the 100cc yamaha Aerox and Peugot speedfight.
These three are more sporty scooters and are two strokes. Otherwise you can
get korean scooters like Bug, Vmoto etc but they're usually a bit crappier
and don't look as trick ;-) Two strokes usually perform a fair bit better
    than four strokes.

Bigger sports scooters like Gilera runner, Italjet Jetset, Aprilia Leonardo
are a bit more per year to register but can go on the freeway easily. I
have an Italjet Dragster 180 but I think there's only about 3 in WA.

Probably go to the scooter place in Mt Hawthorn (scarb road) and see what
    they have on offer...
