Got out of work this evening at around 5:40, it was already dark. Keys into the sidecar and start her up, fuck no lights. I checked all the fuses, fiddled with the key (it's been playing up), turned the light switch on and off and eventually got all my park lights and sidecar lights, but still no headlight. My flasher button works, so in desperation I decided to ride the 42km home holding the high beam flasher, I adjusted the beam down first. 1) It's bloody hard to use the clutch while holding the button down 2) Even the flasher gave up just east of Penrith on the freeway, so here's me tailgating a truck at 100kmh with no headlight, at least the traffic behind can see me. 3) Once I got off the freeway, I turned the hazards on for the last 5kms home, part of that is a 2km hill with 3 hairpins, the whole road unlit, 4) my 'headlights'- the corolla in front of me pulled over to let me past, shit. No fun at all attacking uphill hairpins by the light of your hazard flashers, luckily it's a road I know well and could pick the approaching corners 5) I seen more cops on that run home than I normally do in a month, luckily they were all otherwise involved 6) Guess I'll just have to take the Jag to work tomorrow (R1100R needs a throttle cable and can't be trusted either) I've already sussed the problem, I think its worn contacts in the headlight switch itself. That's no big deal on a BMW as it's easy to pull apart, build up the contacts with solder and reassemble (with a clean working area). The flasher is probably the same thing, I'll find out later this week when I can look at it
