OK, at the risk of being flamed somewhat
views on the Buell Lightning XB12s please
    any UKRM members have one?
(looks as mad as a hairy egg!)

I too was considering a Buell, until I read some of this:

Bloody hell! I was half thinking that I'd like to have a Buell at some
point in the future, bur after reading that.......

And people were bitching a bit because a few 2001 Bandit 1200s burn a
    bit of oil.
    ;-(

You'd expect that kind of behaviour from a pre-unit Triumph.
Not from something from this century!

Reading through the website, there have already been several /fairly/
serious accidents (broken bones et al) down to faults in the bike.
It seems that its only a matter of time before there's a fatality. And that
/will/ be the end of them.

    Shame really.
I first saw a picture of a Buell in about 1990/1991 and have kind of wanted
    one ever since.
Not any more matey...Not after reading that lot!
I'll stick to me 2001 Bandit 1200 (it only smokes a bit - say about 10
    ciggies a day).

A bike aimed at the macho biker market, and you're surprised it's
    designed specifically for dwarfs?

Having a fairly serious /fatality causing fault did'nt do Kawasaki much
harm (I seem to recall at least one fatality from the mid 80's carb
    freezing debacle)
only problem is I've always found Suzuki's aftersales to be fairly shite
    to be honest.

I'm 6 foot and it fitted me rather well IMHO

Agreed it can be nasty when you've never experienced it. My first
experience was on the M40, throttling off as I was coming up to my exit
and then deciding I could get past another couple of cars, needing a
    bit of
power to get past them and nothing happened except a horrible jerky
    response.

  9. I think it's a bit more than that. And, let's face it, if it had been a
car issue there would have been headline stories in the newspapers.

Don't forget the Kawasaki auto-locking front brake,
connected to the hydraulic anti-dive forks.
Or the Yamaha auto-locking front brake, without dust seals.

So do I. They're nice to ride and they sound great with an aftermarket
can. I "test" rode an S1 once: couldn't help blipping the throttle
rather more than necessary on downshifts.

If I'd had the money at the time I'd have bought a new bike for the
    first time in my life.

    Pity about the reliability, though.

    So do I.

And I like the look of that Yamaha MT01, except that it's about two
    grand overpriced.

The exhausts look crap, the letterbox in the side of the tank is
unspeakable, and the 15l fuel capacity is inexcusable. Otherwise it's quite
    nice.

Hmm, my problem was when you gave it a fistfull in the wet, it didn't
pick up *quite* enough so you gave it some more and then all of the
    power came in...
