They have things that compensate, so you can keep the compass reading
    true.

See my reply to Champ, but no, a ship's compass does not read true, despite
    compensators.

I have the map fixed on my GPS - a rotating map would confuse me. :)

It's the compass that goes awry when the GPS based one switches over to the
unit one - it points in very odd directions.

Sir wants the 2610 then. All of Europe of a standard 2GB CF card
(which are as cheap as chips now).
Yes you can. Unfortunately it won't alert you unless you add then all
as waypoints to your route. I use a separate Morpheus Geodesy for
    that caper.
The 2610 CF slot has a rubber seal on the cover. In any case the
IPX-7 rating (good for 30 mins in a bucket of water) applies only to
the internals and not to the CF card nor the (non-existant in any case
on this model) battery compartment. But I can say from personal
experience of thousands of miles in all weathers and even getting it
to bounce down the road, that it is as tough as old boots (not FT's
    obviously).

I think that I can set my map up to do either fixed or moving, changing
the switch over speeds and times can also minimise the strange
    movements.

I've mostly left things as default, with the annoying features mostly
    switched off.

Yeh, spotted that. Still, navigating a battle ship is a little different
from getting a rough direction from a GPS compass.

I think that all the time. Still on a positive note it means there may
still be a use for old fuckers in years to come.

I use the yellow Garmin eTrex for this purpose. I put the co-ords in
from AutoRoute/etc as a waypoint of the destination, and normally a
couple of other points so I know where things are and then head for
    the motorway.

I bought a handlebar mount for it, which I use, but it still works
perfectly well in a tank bag map pocket.

You can use a GPS and a map to greater effect than either one on it's own.

  18. dwb laid this down on his screen :
    256Mb for the EU version.

Oh yes you can. There is a speed camera overlay map free for the
download. It marks the various types in different coloured blobs on top
of the usual maps. It does not however give any audible warnings on the
    approach.

There is no battery bay in the Quest, it uses internal rechargeables.

  19. Chris Malcolm formulated the question :
This and your other work arounds for a non-mapping system take up lots
of time. I just type the address in and follow the Quest's directions.
It doesn't get lost, it always shows a detailed map and you are.
