Santander to Faro - any route recommendations

    Murphy strikes again...

I'm supposed to fly on Holiday to Faro on Wednesday, but it appears
that my hayfever (which has caused a lot of grief this year already)
has caused the Eustachian tube (sp?) to swell almost closed. In other
words, one of my ears is somewhat out of action and the 'pressure
relief' between the inside of the eardrum and the outside world
    currently doesn't work.

I've been advised not to fly under these circumstances as I'd be
risking to damage the ear, so I was looking into plan B. Plan B either
is to try and take a train to Faro or it involves Hondas and getting
on the ferry to Santander instead.

Has anyone ridden from Santander to Southern Portugal and can advise a
good route and roughtly how long it'll take? I'm in enough trouble
already because it means losing nearly a week due to the ferry
schedule so I can't really take the scenic approach to this.

When my lad had an ear infection they fitted a plastic grommet in his ear
drum; the Eustachian tube was too infected to allow pressure equalisation &
drainage so that the infection kept on returning despite anit-biotics.

Get onto your local BUPA hospital.

FWIW, I'd do Dover-Calais, and nail it down the A10.

Two days, I reckon. You'd get there quicker than the ferry.

How long did they take to get that sorted? Just wondering, because I'd
need to get all that done by Tuesday otherwise it'll have to be plan

  7. Veggie and I started to do that several years ago but I wouldn't
recommend the route we took cos it involved five days stay in a
spanish hospital, another week in a UK hospital and several months in
    plaster.

Probably, but TBH I think I'd need the rest I'd get on the ferry. I
can't afford to turn up even more exhausted than I'd be after 700
miles, let alone 1800 or so each way.

It was done through the conventional GP referral to NHS consultant. Long
waiting list but "I can do it next week at the local BUPA hospital". My
    company's health ins. paid.

I've never tried the direct approach to BUPA but they are advertising
it. I guess it's all down to cash and whatever golf tournaments the
    surgeon is competing in.

Ask your GP. Lots of them do minor surgical procedures nowadays.
Although slicing a hole in an ear drum may not be considered minor.
